Bibi’s Last Stand?
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was a big hit with the U.S. Congress, but he looks to be in trouble with Israeli voters, who may be poised to boot him from office in the Tuesday elections.
The ouster of Netanyahu would rid President Obama of perhaps his least favorite head of an allied state. It also would likely help mend damaged U.S.-Israeli relations that hit a low with Netanyahu’s speech to Congress this month, where he attacked a potential nuclear agreement with Iran to rapturous Republican cheers.
A Netanyahu loss — polls show him finishing a close second to the left-leaning Isaac Herzog-Tzipi Livni ticket — also could boost Obama’s diplomatic efforts in the region, in particular by helping restart moribund Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, experts say.
For his part, Bibi is sounding like a conspiracy-flogging Tea Partier:
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to rally rightists by casting his centre-left challengers as tools of a global campaign to usurp power.
Over social media and broadcast interviews, the three-term leader has accused unspecified foreign governments and tycoons of funnelling “tens of millions of dollars” to opposition activists working to undermine his Likud party and boost the Zionist Union joint list led by Isaac Herzog and Tzipi Livni.
They, in turn, have dismissed the rhetorical fusillade as a bid by Netanyahu to shift voters’ attention from socio-economic problems to security challenges such as the Palestinian statehood drive and Iran’s nuclear diplomacy, on which the prime minister argues that he alone can resist pressure from abroad.

You could add a few more similarities to that list. Both are anti-abortion; both wrap themselves in the flag and both use religion as a tool to advance their agenda.
StoneyCurtisll March 15th, 2015 at 13:47
And both are anti-union…

what some of US have been saying since day 1.
still using the ancient tried but true divide and conquer techniques too
-if only they could destroy the public education system!

Let’s hope the Bibi effect works long enough to get some of the ‘baggers out of our own Congress.

If Isaac Herzog is the next Prime Minister, the President should invite the new PM to speak to Congress, pursuant to the President’s stated authority under Article 2 Section 3.
He could inform Pelosi and Reid in advance. Boehner and McConnell can read about it in the Washington Times.
According to the Constitution, the President of the United States can order the Congress to adjourn. Wouldn’t that be a spectacle of right wing angst. The
“tyrant” is doing exactly what the Constitution says he can do Let’s queue up that old song “Hit the Road Jack”
Article 2 – Section 3.
He shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the state of the union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in case of disagreement between them, with respect to the time of adjournment, —-he may adjourn them to such time as he shall think proper—-; he shall receive ambassadors and other public ministers; he shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed, and shall commission all the officers of the United States.

oh yea, well this just happens to be the Christian PM from the land that Jesus walked in!
I’m sure the Christian founders who started this Christian nation would have approved!
well, maybe not some of the fake ones like Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Adams (and son) the traitors who signed the constitution or the treasonous traitors of the US Congress who sided with the Union.

unlike folks living here who have been putting up with republican shenanigans and divisiveness, hopefully the Israeli populace have no doubts that Bibi has the same intentions for their country and they are not going to allow it to happen there.
Dwendt44 March 15th, 2015 at 13:40
Much of the Israeli population pays attention to politics and news of national interest. While most here tune politics out most of the time.
StoneyCurtisll March 15th, 2015 at 14:09
Dont be fooled by the so called “left-leaning Isaac Herzog-Tzipi Livni ticket”…
The are about as left leaning as McCain and Palin are liberal..
Herzog and Livni are just as hostile to the Palestinians as the hard liners in Israel are…
There is very little difference between Netanyahu’s Lukid party and the Zionist Union..
granpa.usthai March 15th, 2015 at 16:46
well, like Romney/Ryan said in their mudslide ‘victory’ in 2012:
do it all by yourself.
good luck, Mr. PM –
but Israelis may just be looking for a team player who isn’t interested in making an unregulated offshore bank account just for themselves at the expense of the national treasury.
