Southern Poverty Law Center Outlines Domestic Terror By The Radical Right
Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center was on my radio show Tuesday night to discuss the threat of the radical right. A recent study shows that the sovereign citizen movement is a bigger domestic threat than foreign terrorist groups like ISIS.

I am glad that he takes on the fringe right, but I have no idea how he can stand to spend his waking hours researching them without frequent, multiple showers each day. And, possibly, large quantities of mind altering substances.
Mark, and other’s like him should be on your show more often, Alan!

The thing with studies is, you can make the results point to whatever you want. It’s all dependent on how you compile your data.
I don’t think the Soveriegn Citizen movement is harmless, nor do I think it’s a “bigger” threat than a foreign terror group. A man with a weapon and murder in his heart is dangerous. Period. There’s no need to try and quantify that danger. Murderers are a threat to decent people and should be put away, or put down, with extreme agressiveness.

Well stated. I agree attempting to quantify one threat against another might be a moot point. McVeigh showed us what 2 or 3 people with a murderous mind set are capable of as much as Osama bin Laden. Right now it seems that Sovereign Citizens might have killed more Americans in the homeland but that could easily be undone by a 9/11 type attack from ISIS or another group.
Maybe this is why DHS thinks SC’s are a threat:

I think SPLC overlooks a much bigger source of violence that’s already widespread, happening right now as I write this post… It’s made up of both “lone wolfs” and wolf-packs we commonly call criminal gangs. I know we don’t usually refer to these groups and individual actions as “terrorism,” but maybe we should?
Retired Gen. John Allen said today before the Senate that the people in Syria/Iraq who call themselves “Islamic State,” are actually a “criminal gang and death cult.” From that it’s easy to see the comparison to Gangster-culture in America today. At least in my opinion.

This is a story that needs to be followed and more like it.
