January Jobs Numbers, A ‘Great Report’

Posted by | February 6, 2015 09:04 | Filed under: Economy Good News Top Stories

January saw 257,000 jobs created, 23,000 more than were estimated.

Full-time workers surged, gaining 777,000 and numbering more than 120 million for the first time since July 2008. Their wages grew as well, with hourly earnings up 12 cents an hour, representing an annualized gain of 2.2 percent and the largest monthly gain in the economic recovery.

It was only the second time in the last 11 years that January’s numbers beat Wall Street expectations and came amid a powerful run for nonfarm payrolls. Over the past three months, job creation has averaged 336,000, with upward revisions for both November and December.

“It’s a great report. The labor force finally goes up, we got a little wage growth, a lot of upward revisions,” said Ed Keon, managing director and portfolio manager for Prudential Financial.

Adjusted numbers show much better results for previous months.

December’s lower-than-expected 252,000 got pushed up to 329,000, while November’s surged from 353,000 to 423,000.

Another black eye for the America Must Fail Republicans.

  2. Mike February 6th, 2015 at 10:21

I give the republicans 6 months til they are able to reverse this trend (60 months of continuous growth) It’s their only hope of even having a platform to run on.

    • rg9rts February 6th, 2015 at 10:25

They’ll just claim it was their idea to begin with

      • Mike February 6th, 2015 at 10:30

        Hasn’t McConnell already tried that…?

        • rg9rts February 6th, 2015 at 10:34

They’ll just rewind the tape…any good figures will be because of their foresight.

According to right wingers, when the economic news is bad, President Obama must assume 100% of the responsibility. When the economic news is good, President Obama must receive 0% of the credit.

Now I realize today’s headline is terrible news for Breitbart, Newsmax, Rush et al whose jobs, income and in some respects their very identity depends on the myth of a failing Obama Presidency.

So spin away right wingers. Explain to your gullible clueless masses yearning to be free of a twice elected Democratic President, exactly why all of this has happened despite the sinister machinations of the Kenyan Muslim socialist usurper.

Personally, I am about to finish filing my federal tax return and claim my $228 refund.

    Thank you Mr. President.

I have already e-filed my California state return. Yes boys and girls here in “over taxed” California, my refund nudges into 4 figures. On top of that, I get paved roads, a state park system offering some of the best outdoor recreation to be found anywhere in north America, and bridges that do not fall down.

Suck on it righties. It is around tax time that I have a graphic reminder of just how full of sh*t your rhetoric is.

But Obama wants to take away your right to let your children die of preventable diseases.

Thank you Mr. President. Oh and not just for the job growth. Making right wing heads explode (or at least bleed profusely from the ears) is a lot of fun to watch

We’ll see. This number excludes most people without jobs though. I think Wal-Mart is going to get burned (HD too). The dollar is strong because US shale oil backs it but the currency race to the bottom is compromising all currency. Something has got to give and gold don’t pay dividends..

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.

Sure, they are high on production and low on music.

Well once again if it is good news for America, it is very bad news for the republicans.

I’m expecting a disappointment tomorrow. These oil driller lay offs will be accompanied by idled truckers. Pent up inventory is a profit killer, as much as a production killer.

    • Fairypuff Phairypuf February 18th, 2015 at 23:57

Even though the long shore strike is getting worse by the day, when its settled demand for new production is going to shrink.

      • Fairypuff Phairypuf February 19th, 2015 at 00:03

I bought cmi thinking trucks are safe to keep rolling during any temporary production slowdown.

      • Fairypuff Phairypuf February 19th, 2015 at 10:33

I think a secret oil deal has been made. Government regulators will turn their heads and let it proceed. Oil is to big to fail because it is supporting many of the lowest income people in the world. $50 oil long term will be a catastrophe. The supply is long term high. A smoke filled room is oil’s best friend. Oil probably will have a glass ceiling of around $80-90 for the next few years.

Strange, my nephew was offered a job yesterday as an oil worker. Why are they hiring instead of firing?

      • Fairypuff Phairypuf February 19th, 2015 at 09:25

got me . I’m not jumping on any oil price suckers rally though. Oil workers are going to get cuts.
