Republicans Outraged Over Tom Brady’s Superbowl Tax Bill

If there’s anyone we don’t need to feel sorry for, it’s Superbowl XLIX MVP, Tom Brady.  It seems only fair that this multi-millionaire, who will receive untold sums of cash from endorsements, repay the same society that enabled him to make gobs of money.

Tom Brady MVP, Malcolm Butler & Team Owner, Robert Kraft

When exorbitant earnings that are above and beyond what we consider wealthy were taxed at high rates, America was the world’s leading economic superpower.

A study indicates that tax cuts for the wealthiest earners fail to generate economic growth at the same pace as tax cuts aimed at low- and middle-income earners.

The super wealthy should pay their fair share and that’s not open for debate.  As MVP, Brady also won a Chevy pickup truck, which he decided to gift to another player, Malcolm Butler.  Newsmax reports:

But with that comes a steep federal gift tax of $5,000.

As for Brady’s game check of $97,000, which CNBC reports is the amount the NFL pays to each player on the Super Bowl-winning team, he will pay $42,000 in federal taxes from that.

Brady, Butler, and their teammates and coaches celebrated their victory with a parade in Boston Wednesday. Brady’s tax bill adds a bit of sting to the victory and his MVP prize.

Everyone get out your violin.  Poor Tom has to pay federal taxes on his winnings, but the right-wing, anti-tax crowd has no problem with the working poor paying more in taxes than the super rich.

Has Mr. Brady made any complaints about his tax status or is this the latest work of fiction from right wing media?

With his roots in the very liberal northern California town of San Mateo, CA I suspect that Brady’s views on multimillionaire tax rates are more akin to Ted Turner, Warren Buffett and Bill Gates than whomever is responsible for the propaganda at Newsmax.

Exactly, why are they associating him with the right? This is pathetic.

Fiction is right. Superstar athletes and other performers have no idea how much they pay in taxes, any more than other very wealthy people. They have people who handle that. They have tax attorneys, accountants, etc., whose job it is to minimize their tax “burden.” Whether Brady pays 10 or 20 or 30% will make no difference in his lifestyle, or that of his kids. After his very brief playing career, he will rent out his name to make many millions more for the rest of his life, without ever having to actually work again. He doesn’t need the sympathy or crocodile tears of any of the republicans in congress. They should figure out how to help the people who actually work their entire lives.

and you know this because you have studied the economic fluctuation within the usa for the past 4-5 decades I suppose. Hopefully your deep research provided you with the truth vs what really happened.

You might learn something here, if you have the patience. It’s so easy to throw the catchy phrases and insults around instead of making a point.

Do not come to this site and tell the owner to shut up on his private property. It’s very simple: You don’t like it here, then leave.

He owns this site. Why would he ‘shut up’?

Excuse me? Who the hell do you think you are? I will say whatever I want, just as you do! BTW, the 1st Amendment works for everyone, not just when idiots like you decide its ok. You’re too stupid to know that, obviously…

          No you won’t.

Alan didn’t write this post anyway. Reading is hard.

Of your 50% figure, when you factor in CHILDREN, military in combat zones and senior citizens living on minimal SS that they EARNED, the CBO estimates the percentage falls to about 27%.

The IRS makes you pay taxes if your income is over $8000……wow, that works out to be $666 a month BEFORE taxes. Take out the highest tax rate (since they don’t have loopholes, deductions nor can afford a CPA to take advantage of what the wealthier can afford), and you don’t have enough to live on unless you own a tent.

I know you tea baggers are math deprived but really, you have little call to say Alan is ‘pathetic’.

When I first read this article I thought it was going to be about the gift tax he was going to have to pay for wanting to give the Chevy truck he won for being the MVP to Butler. In which case I would agree. I think the gift tax is criminal and hurts the middle class and poor. It has been setup in this country to keep the middle class and poor down and to keep the rich wealthy. Why should somebody that is extremely wealthy be discouraged to give money or something of value to somebody less wealthy? The tax code needs to be redone completely. I do not know the answer but it is not my job. It is the job of our incompetent congress to figure it out.

Oh excuse me! So 43% dont pay income taxes. Huge difference from half, isn’t it? Thank God there are such knowledgeable people like you out there! Now, go bother someone else.

Why is the NFL so cheap on their season finale? Pay each Super Bowl winning player $142,000 less $42k in taxes netting $100 grand for RWNJ’s to belch about.

Tom Brady doesn’t appear to be complaining, but that doesn’t seem to matter to the “geniuses” at Newsmax who always have an ax to grind about anything having to do with the government. Every headline that comes out of that cess pool has something negative to say about the government, and it invests a lot of ink into pushing dietary supplements and other scams.

So, in order to be paying that rate on that money, it means he’s making over $400k/year and the $97k he won is above and beyond that.
    Not too shabby.
