Former New York Mayor Dinkins: Police Being ‘Disrespectful To The Office Of The Mayor’

Posted by | January 9, 2015 10:05 | Filed under: Politics Radio Interviews Top Stories

Former New York Mayor David Dinkins, the first African-American mayor of Gotham, spoke to me on radio last night, referring to police turning their backs on Mayor Bill de Blasio as “disrespectful” and recalling his own experiences with the NYPD. When he favored a civilian review board, thousands demonstrated in front of City Hall.

Dinkins also held his fire when asked to comment on the reactions of his successor, Rudy Giuliani.

COLMES: Do you agree with Rudy Giuliani on any level on this?

DINKINS: Well Rudy and I are often at odds. And let me leave that as that.

COLMES: You don’t want to say more than that?

DINKINS: It doesn’t go anywhere. No point in the news being that two former Mayors are in disagreement on something. That doesn’t assist in bringing about a resolution of the current problem.

Of course it was “disrespectful” for the police to turn their backs, that was their intent.

Is it not disrespectful of mayor to act like he is?
