Boehner Condemns Obama’s Cuba Policy, Owns Tons Of Stock In Corps Doing Business With Human Rights Violators

It came as no surprise to see the kneejerk Republican response to President Obama’s decision to open relations with Cuba after more than half-a-century of isolation and sanctions. Clearly, 54 years isn’t quite enough time for this ridiculous policy to work, and if you ever wondered how long a series of Republican presidential administrations might have kept our military fighting the war in Iraq without “cutting and running,” let this be a solid indicator of their futile tenacity.

Jeb Bush called it Obama’s “latest foreign policy misstep.” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said, “It’s part of a long record of coddling dictators and tyrants that this administration has established.” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) pledged, “I will do all in my power to block the use of funds to open an embassy in Cuba. Normalizing relations with Cuba is bad idea at a bad time.”

The most hilarious GOP reaction came from Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) who tweeted the following:

Why is this hilarious? One glance at Boehner’s assets portfolio via Open Secrets reveals that Boehner is making a bundle from corporations that are actively exploiting workers and racking up human rights violations in China, a nation led by communists with a long history of human rights abuses, as well as other countries such as Burma and perhaps even Iran. In other words, it really doesn’t seem as if Boehner is all that concerned about people enjoying freedom.

1) Walmart. Boehner owns somewhere between $15,000 and $50,000 in Walmart stock, despite the fact that it’s arguably one of the worst offenders in terms of sweatshops and labor violations in China. In addition to running shoddy factories, workers were paid less than the 41-cents-per-hour minimum wage. In 2008, The New York Times reportedCONTINUE READING

When republicans disagree with the Pope and agree with cheney you know they have jumped the shark.

Most Cuban Americans relish Cuba-USA normalization. Boehner’s crying because the GOP just lost FL’s 29 electoral votes for good! Canadian Sen Raphael (Ted) Cruz nutty evilangelical dad Raphael Cruz Sr. fought for Fidel Castro to overthrow Cuba’s status quo & US interests.

So we are lead to believe that Boehner is against our ending the embargo against Cuba on the grounds that he will not profit from it and is a hypocrite. Sounds about right. China is a communist country, but Boehner must think it’s okay to do business with China because his portfolio includes businesses with human rights violations in China. I’ll buy that

Oh how the hypocrisy burns! I wonder if any of the big news outlets will have one of their reporters hit Boehner on this. I mean, China gets most favored nation status in trading, while that government abuses their people and does not allow freedom of speech and worship.

I will never EVER be able to understand the right wing feigned outrage, IE “how can we do business with a communist country that has a record of human rights violations”?

It is hard to argue for being ‘tough on Cuba when we haven’t done the same thing with China however, 2 wrongs don’t make a right.

Also, I must point out that it is not just people of US but the people of all capitalist nations in this world that should stand together against communism and specifically communism’s lack of respect for property laws. It would not be enough for just US shoppers to stop shopping at Walmart.

“China with one of the world’s highest infringement rates in computer software, entertainment software, movie video, and music surpassed the U.S. as the world’s largest FDI recipient in 2002, and has widened its lead over the U.S. as the most preferred location for foreign direct investment.”

      • Tommy6860 December 18th, 2014 at 11:33

Well, it seems capitalism is more of the problem than communism, just say’n.

        • Aun Awn December 18th, 2014 at 11:53

I think a lot of people would agree with that, it’s hard to fathom how much worse off the world would be if most nations were communist.

      • Aun Awn December 18th, 2014 at 14:09

Also it should be noted that one of the biggest reasons Cuba went communist is because of the corrupt US mob/gang culture of the 1950s, there would not have been enough support for communism without that. So, we wouldn’t be in this place in the first place if US citizens had always treated foreign citizens with the same rights as US citizens,

Sadly, Cuba has seen the worst of both systems.
