Spending Bill Stinks
The $1.1 trillion spending bill agreed to by both parties has enough poison pills that it should be vetoed.
One of the most notable changes includes dramatically expanding the amount of money that wealthy political donors could give the national parties, drastically undercutting the 2002 landmark McCain-Feingold campaign finance overhaul. Top donors would be allowed to give three times the annual cap on national party donations to three additional party committees set up for the purposes of the presidential conventions, building expenses and election recounts.
For the first time, Congress also would allow the benefits of current retirees to be severely cut, part of an effort to save some of the nation’s most distressed pension plans…
At domestic agencies, the EPA’s budget would be cut by $60 million…
The benefits for retirees that will be cut are from pension plans that have already been agreed to and planned for. To cut them after the fact is a cruel way to deal with some of the most financially vulnerable of our society, while allowing rich donors to give more to elect the people who will give take care of them even more while ignoring middle and lower income Americans.

This is possible because the beneficiaries of all those donations are the ones making the rules. McCain-Feingold might as well not exist.

Let’s not cut the Defense Department’d budget as it only accounts for close to half of all federal government spending. Better to take money from seniors and poor and sick people.
Larry Schmitt December 10th, 2014 at 12:54
Along with giving them weapons systems the JCS said they don’t even need. Those unnecessary planes and tanks and ships are corporate welfare for the defense contractors in each of the congressman’s districts. And guaranteed votes from the employees of said contractors.

why you have to compromise the security of US people by cutting Defense Department? how about to cut 45 billion foreign aid, the money going to muslim countries, where people constantly burning american flag and screaming death to America?
tiredoftea December 11th, 2014 at 12:43
You’re kidding, right? One in five U.S. military bases are useless. Our military is larger then the next twelve foreign militaries combined! The DoD is the largest money sink in our federal government. Way past time to cut it drastically, with no “compromise of security”.

no, I’m not. I lived overseas for 18 years and saw thousands of Muslims full of hate to US and Americans, but they are happily getting money from US foreign aids. You can not know how much threat is over there for US people and our country, unless you go overseas and live there for a while. You also can’t know if US military bases are in use or not and for what. We need strong, motivated military to stay safe. Speaking about the 1.1 trillion 2015 budget, do not you think that unaccompanied minors in southern borders should be sent to their mommy and daddy, instead of being financed by tens billions from US taxpayers money? all illegals too.. these billions should be spent for taking care of veterans and elder invalids and not kids of underdeveloped, full of corruption countries, where most of them are not kids anymore, but criminals. With 18 milliards US budget debt (which was doubled by current gov in last 6 years) we cant afford be generous toward our enemies and illegal “kiddies”, while millions kids of US citizens even can’t get visa to stay with their parents. Are u aware of that? the children of US citizen should wait for visa number for 8-9 years, if they are over 21 year old.

“…thousands of Muslims full of hate to US and Americans,” It seems we are giving them more than enough reasons for that feeling.
As for the rest, we spend way too much for too little return on our military. It cannot, and should not, save us from our disastrous foreign policies. We can no longer afford to police the world. Foreign aid is a very small part of the federal budget and saving pennies while ignoring millions of dollars is wrong and will lead to an economic disaster. Slashing the military budget frees up funds for the few valid things you mentioned.
As for your dislike of others “yearning to be free”, that speaks volumes about your ignorance of them.

Only Foreign aid and illegal minors budget almost
equal the budget for active-duty troops maintenance. You have to be delusional to believe that they will stop
hating Americans, if we will withdraw all our military from everywhere around the world. They are not Vietnamese or Koreans. Devoted Muslims hate us not because of our troops, but because USA is a symbol of freedom, which is not
welcomed in Islam. Quran dictates them to hate and kill all infidels, spread to other countries and impose sharia law around the world. However I agree with you that we have to stop playing a world’s police role and understand, that
Islamic countries are not able to adopt democracy or any kind of freedom, except the freedom of killing each other and all non- Muslims. Islamic jihadis murdered seven people every hour during whole November 2014. Saddam was good for Iraq, Asad is good for Syria, Kaddafi was good for Libya, Mubarak was perfect for Egypt, Putin is good for Russia. And
our soldiers should not be involved in any of these countries military actions.
Our current gov screwed up relations with all our good allies around the world and made complete mess in Mid East. And even now, when our commander in chief is trying to bomb ISiS (tens billions from the budget) from one hand, his Muslim
best friends from Turkey giving to Isis militants info about where and when they are going to bomb, so they could flee from the location in time. This is how comic, if not effectively tragic we are spending the budget under current gov for defense (64 billion for next year). But if you want peace, start
preparing yourself to the war. And threat from Islam to US people is tremendous, because of that we have to have strong military and military bases around the world, but the big part of the military budget should be concentrated on the targets here, on our borders, against domestic Islamic jihadists,
drug cartels and criminals. We have to secure completely US borders and shoot anybody who is crossing them illegally, just like any other normal country.

This bill is a joke. Out of $1.1 Trillion, we have to go after retirees?! Pensions are contracts that should never be broken. Change benefits for new hires all you want, but once workers are in something you can’t change the rules.

they said the same about our constitution and bill of rights. Pension companies messed up by not making them individual accounts thinking their agreements with their state is better then the constitution its self ?
