Police: Austin Shooter Was A Right-Wing Homegrown Terrorist

The Austin shooter, who targeted “multiple downtown buildings” before dawn on Friday with about 100 shots ringing out into the dark streets, is described by authorities as a right wing extremist.

Larry McQulliams harbored extremist right-wing views and appeared to be planning a broader attack against churches and government facilities, according to what law enforcement officials said Monday.

CBS News reports:

…McQuilliams had multiple weapons, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a water supply and a map of 34 downtown buildings that likely were potential targets in his pre-dawn rampage the day after Thanksgiving, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said.

McQuilliams, 49, started his attack on the consulate building and a federal courthouse. He was killed by a single shot to the chest from a police officer as he shot at police headquarters, Acevedo said. McQuilliams fired about 200 rounds, but no one else was killed or injured.

“The one mistake he made was he came to the Austin police station and we were able to take him out pretty quickly,” Acevedo said, who described McQuilliams as a convicted felon and as a “homegrown, American extremist” and “terrorist.”

McQuilliams’ had rented a van that was parked outside the police station and was loaded with ammunition and propane fuel canisters typically used for camping. McQuilliams tried to use fireworks with the canisters to make crude but ineffective bombs and used some at the Mexican Consulate, causing a fire that was quickly extinguished.

Investigators were seen removing dozens of fuel canisters from McQuilliams’ apartment the day after the shooting, the Associated Press observed.

Included in the contents of the van was a copy of “Vigilantes of Christendom,” a 1990 book associated with the Christian Identity movement known as the Phineas Priesthood, which espouses anti-Semitic and racist views.

A handwritten note inside the book referred to McQuilliams as a “priest in the fight against anti-God people,” Acevedo said.

Written across his chest were the words, “Let me die,” Acevedo said.

McQuilliams had served about seven years in federal prison for bank robbery and was released in 2000. As a convicted felon, he could not legally possess the firearms he used in his attack. Acevedo said investigators are still trying to determine how he got them.

McQuilliams’ Facebook page also referenced Ron Paul, as well as an aversion to paying taxes. He wrote,”Stop buying other people stuff with my tax money!”

Stop paying for wars with mine.

” a joke like most Republicans.”

Are you saying that the shooter himself was a verified Republican?

If so, I must have missed seeing that in the article. Where is it? As far as I could see, it only says that he referenced Ron Paul. Although Ron Paul is a member of the Republican party, he is, in fact, considered anathema by many establishment Republicans.

        RWNJ = Republican

I bet that you argue that all KKK/white supremacist members are democrats too don’t you? Who cares that every KKK member announces to anyone who will listen just how much they hate democrats and that black president who just happens to be a democrat and say that all black people vote democrat for the free stuff and have Romney and Bush bumper stickers peeling and fading on their pick-up trucks and every tie to a politician that has ever come out has been a republican and the list is a mile long.

but you will still say it is not enough evidence and next you will claim that you looked it up on the internet and confirmed that he was a registered democrat even though it is a felony to try to gain access to people’s government files.

That freak show is all yours, it is called the religious right for a reason, republicans own it.

It looks as if his FB page has been “sanitized”. A whitewash so the politicians can hang the “right wing” label around this guys neck. All that can be gleaned from a public viewing of his page is he was a ren-fair addict. If he had posted anything political aside from the Dalai Llama meme, it has been removed or hidden from public view. This is not the FB page of a right wing extremist. The Austin PD are lying as they’ve been ordered to.

Everything they sayin this article does not make him a right winger or conservative.
Noneof what this idiot was associated with or did is right wing.
The Police officer Acevedo needs to research his definition about right wingers.
This idiot is nothing more than a law breaking Anarchist!

He may be a right winger. We have a few nutcases. The fact remains, that the Left owns political violence, as well as plain old thuggery. Liberalism is a cult of hate and violence.
