Yes, you need a little bit of good news this morning, so here goes:

An American was among hostages in Yemen who were freed from al-Qaeda kidnappers by the country’s security forces, according to a Tuesday report.

A government source told Reuters that the foreign hostage freed along with seven Yemeni citizens was an American military instructor, though the U.S. embassy in Sanaa did not confirm the information.

The instructor is said to have worked at the al-Anad air base, 37 miles from the city of Aden.

Seven al-Qaeda members were killed in the raid, according to Yemen’s security committee.

Yemen has become a focus of U.S. counterterrorism operations in recent years.

Al Aribiya provides abit of the bigger picture:

Ansar al-Sharia, the local al Qaeda affiliate, have also come under more pressure recently after Shi’ite Houthi fighters captured the capital Sanaa in September and then pushed into al Qaeda strongholds in central Yemen.
