A woman who bought a gun to prepare for possible unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, appears to have accidentally fatally shot herself in the head on Friday night.

The victim was identified in a police report as 26-year-old Becca Campbell. She was a passenger in a car involved in an auto accident while her 33-year-old boyfriend was driving, according to CNN.

The unidentified boyfriend told police that the couple had bought a firearm because of fears of unrest related to the upcoming grand jury decision on Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, in the shooting death of Michael Brown.

According to the boyfriend, as the couple drove late Friday night, the victim waved a gun, jokingly saying they were ready for Ferguson, a source told CNN.

The boyfriend said he ducked to get out of the way of the gun then accidentally rear-ended another car.

The accident caused the gun to go off and she was struck by a bullet in the head, according to the source.

The victim was rushed to a hospital but died.

Police are awaiting gun trace results, as part of the ongoing investigation.

Gun sales have gone up by almost 700% in Ferguson ahead of the Grand Jury decision. Expect more “accidental” shootings.

I wonder how many people obtaining firearms have actually been taught to handle them safely. And shouldn’t safety first supersede possession but we are in a place where logic is thrown out the window when guns are involved and accidental shootings become common fare for the news. It’s a tragedy for those that didn’t know any better and a boon for manufacturers and sellers and pundits and politicians and etc…..
