Darren Wilson Not Indicted In Shooting Death Of Michael Brown
The grand jury’s decision was announced on Ferguson, Missouri police officer Darren Wilson, who shot an unarmed black teenager to death on August 9th.
County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch announced that Wilson will not be indicted on charges in the highly publicized case which provoked mostly peaceful protests in the small town.
At issue for the grand jury was whether Officer Darren Wilson, who is white, will face charges in the shooting death of Brown, 18, who was black.
Brown was unarmed when Wilson shot him but the facts of that fatal moment are disputed.
Ed Magee, a spokesman for the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said the 12-member grand jury had to decide whether Wilson should be charged with any of several possible crimes, including: first-degree murder, second-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter or involuntary manslaughter.
The 28-year-old officer reportedly told the grand jury that he feared for his life as Brown came at him. Some witnesses previously said Brown was trying to surrender and had his hands up.
Brown, 18, and Johnson, 22, were walking in the middle of the street, heading to Johnson’s house, when Wilson confronted them, after reports of a shoplifting incident.
Wilson reportedly told the young men either “Get the f*** on the sidewalk” or “Get the f*** out of the street,” according to police and media accounts of the event.
What happened next is up to speculation, however, Johnson said that they said we’re “not but a minute away from our destination, and we would shortly be out of the street.”
Johnson said, “At no point in time did they struggle over the weapon because the weapon was already drawn on us.”
But others say there was a struggle and videos were leaked to the media by law enforcement officials, to portray the deceased as a “thug.”
Activist Shaun King writes, “For 104 days, the police have lied and said Mike Brown was killed 35 feet away from Darren Wilson’s SUV. It was actually 148 feet,” in a Daily Kos post which has gone viral.
Ferguson has come under fire for the militarization of their police force, a town which is inhabits only 21,111 residents, with a largely black population.
Apparently, the grand jury felt that lethal force was justifiable, a decision which has already been speculated on the Internet long before it was announced. 100 FBI agents were dispatched to the town. Schools have been shut down. Michael Brown’s family called for calm just before the anticipated grand jury decision.
Calls for peace and restraint also emanated from President Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder, civil-rights leaders and business owners.
Michael Brown’s name should be honored. The slain teenager’s family has asked for 4.5 minutes of silence after the announcement.

I have two things to say. First. Are any of you here Black? I don’t mean to start a ruckus and I don’t wish to cast sight on a difference that may or may not exist between the nicec and not so nice people I have met on this forum. I just want to know who I am talking to this one time and know if I have points of congruency.
Second. This meant nothing and changes nothing. It is lost battle in the long war. As George Bataille said “Sacrifice is nothing other than the production of sacred things.” Sacrifices, granted needless ones but sacrifices none the less and this one will be honored as the others are. There’s no need to cry out for “justice” or cheer because that said justice has been served. Justice was never the purpose of this show and we all know that. It’s all just one more casualty out of many and as we all know inside many more to come. Dark huh?
I’m saying all this to say that I, as I am sure many of my gene-kin are not afraid now because of this nor were we ever. We are not rash in our thought or behavior.

Well I am black and what strikes me most about this case is the contrast between the reaction to the shooting of Michael Brown and the reaction to the lawlessness of Cliven Bundy along with the implied threat of violence from dozens of heavily armed supporters.
But as far as “the system” is concerned, the fact is that this decision was not rendered by law enforcement or government officials. The decision was rendered by ordinary citizens sitting on a grand jury. I simply cannot reconcile a sweeping condemnation of the criminal justice system with the fact that the professionals in that system had absolutely no vote in the outcome.
Am I disappointed in the outcome? Yes. Do I encourage the family of Mr. Brown to pursue civil litigation and/or federal civil rights charges? Yes. I understand the anger of demonstrators, but I do not understand and will never condone trashing our own neighborhoods (or anyone else’s) in a riot. Destroying your own community out of frustration is the height of irresponsible idiocy and accomplishes absolutely nothing that will provide any benefit or solace to the family of Michael Brown.
I say listen to the President. Listen to the family of Michael Brown. Do not use this decision as an excuse for thuggery. And for any of the protesters who did not vote in the recent elections or in elections past, you just need to go home and STFU. You are a part of the problem.

Agree, and I too am still appalled that the Bundyites were never charged with any crimes, and the welfare rancher still sends his cows trampling across public lands and refuses to pay fees or fines.
My only disagreement with anything you said, is that this Grand Jury was not without prejudice, as a result of the Prosecutor, who acted more like a defense attorney for Wilson than a prosecutor.
This is a clip by a good legal analyst who confronts those issues very well, as the legal system was jeopardized by the actions of this prosecutor.

Wow, if the the evidence was conflicting, why not bring it to trial, it makes no sense? Anymore as of late, our justice system from the highest to lowest order, doesn’t fail to disappoint. If this doesn’t get people off their asses to vote, WTF will???
mcalleyboy November 25th, 2014 at 05:10
This is Democracy, what part of that don’t you understand, the grand jury ruled the officer was innocent. What part of you don’t beat police officers and grab their weapons don’t you understand and I guess it’s okay to flee an officer while carrying a weapon, this don’t happen anymore they’re authorized to shoot the criminal in the back, isn’t that long over due.
eyelashviper November 25th, 2014 at 10:26
What you apparently do not understand is that the prosecutor, who is supposed to actually PROSECUTE, acted more like a defense attorney for Wilson, and was very prejudicial, and made determinations regarding what “evidence” could be presented. The very same Grand Jury had decided upon three or four other cases, but when this one came up, the entire procedure and attutude changed.
Legal experts across the country have condemned this prosecutor, and his inflammatory and exaggerated statements last night are just another indication of his egregious and unprofessional behavior.
This was a sham, and no justice prevailed.

I don’t believe the evidence was conflicting, but the testimonies of some were in conflict with the evidence. Enough testimony was corroborated by the evidence to convince the GJ that the could not find Probable Cause.
