Darren Wilson Not Indicted In Shooting Death Of Michael Brown

Posted by | November 24, 2014 21:26 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

The grand jury’s decision was announced on Ferguson, Missouri police officer Darren Wilson, who shot an unarmed black teenager to death on August 9th.

County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch announced that Wilson will not be indicted on charges in the highly publicized case which provoked mostly peaceful protests in the small town.

In the painstakingly long announcement in which McCulloch blamed social media after offering condolences to the Brown family, he ultimately said the grand jury decided no probable cause exists against Wilson.

At issue for the grand jury was whether Officer Darren Wilson, who is white, will face charges in the shooting death of Brown, 18, who was black.

Brown was unarmed when Wilson shot him but the facts of that fatal moment are disputed.

Ed Magee, a spokesman for the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said the 12-member grand jury had to decide whether Wilson should be charged with any of several possible crimes, including: first-degree murder, second-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter or involuntary manslaughter.

The 28-year-old officer reportedly told the grand jury that he feared for his life as Brown came at him. Some witnesses previously said Brown was trying to surrender and had his hands up.

Brown, 18, and Johnson, 22, were walking in the middle of the street, heading to Johnson’s house, when Wilson confronted them, after reports of a shoplifting incident.

Wilson reportedly told the young men either “Get the f*** on the sidewalk” or “Get the f*** out of the street,” according to police and media accounts of the event.

What happened next is up to speculation, however, Johnson said that they said we’re “not but a minute away from our destination, and we would shortly be out of the street.”

Johnson said, “At no point in time did they struggle over the weapon because the weapon was already drawn on us.”

But others say there was a struggle and videos were leaked to the media by law enforcement officials, to portray the deceased as a “thug.”

Activist Shaun King writes, “For 104 days, the police have lied and said Mike Brown was killed 35 feet away from Darren Wilson’s SUV. It was actually 148 feet,” in a Daily Kos post which has gone viral.

Ferguson has come under fire for the militarization of their police force, a town which is inhabits only 21,111 residents, with a largely black population.

Apparently, the grand jury felt that lethal force was justifiable, a decision which has already been speculated on the Internet long before it was announced. 100 FBI agents were dispatched to the town. Schools have been shut down. Michael Brown’s family called for calm just before the anticipated grand jury decision.

Calls for peace and restraint also emanated from President Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder, civil-rights leaders and business owners.

Michael Brown’s name should be honored. The slain teenager’s family has asked for 4.5 minutes of silence after the announcement.

Unbelievably smarmy news conference – a de facto indictment of Michael Brown and social media. Many Missouri law enforcers are suffering butthurt for being exposed by Anonymous as members of racist groups.

  4. Republicans_are_Evil November 24th, 2014 at 21:31

He should have been charged with first degree murder, and then found not guilty, if indeed he was not guilty. This is just going to piss everyone off.

Murder has a legal definition. The DOJ doesn’t seem to think that happened. (McCulloch has been careful to conitnue to include the DOJ results in his announcement.)

The next step to finding the truth of this is the Federal investigation. How slanted is McCulloch’s statement to defend his decision to abdicate his responsibility to indict Officer Wilson and bring this to a full jury?

    • whatthe46 November 24th, 2014 at 22:22

there should be a federal indictment. it happened in the king case, it can happen here. take it to trial. present all the evidence all of the eye witnesses.

It’s sad really that we accept the police, or anyone actually to gun down unarmed people. It says a lot about how uncivil and violent we are as a people. Yes, they do wrong, but using lethal force in every and all situations isn’t right.

Little wonder we want to deport 11 million people without even considering the human costs. The forces that don’t care about those human costs are the same that gives us this blood in the streets.

The people are right to call this an injustice, not because of a white cop and black teen, but because the law and society gives the police the power of life and death even if the person is fleeing.

    • Spirit of America November 24th, 2014 at 21:54

According to what was just said, he wasn’t fleeing.

      • Foundryman November 24th, 2014 at 22:42

Many things were said, until I see the full evidence report, I’ll take them all with a huge grain of salt. If you want to believe he was only a few inches from the side of the police cruiser, go for it. I’ll continue to believe he was 30 plus feet from it, which does sort of kind of suggest he wasn’t sticking around.

In any case, instead of ‘fleeing’, I could have said sitting on a park swing, or walking down the street, or sitting in a car listening to music, all unarmed and all gunned down to death…the human costs are being ignored.

        • Spirit of America November 24th, 2014 at 22:51

Oh I absolutely do think the cop should have been indicted for something. He did kill a kid who just graduated a couple months prior for jay walking….
He didn’t have to initiate a confrontation with him at all. Except that’s what hotdog cops do.

            • Spirit of America November 24th, 2014 at 23:17

“He did kill a kid who just graduated a couple months prior for jay walking..”
LOL, my GOD you want racism/injustice so bad you have to make stuff up to find it? There is enough of it for real for you to demean a real problem by telling falsehoods.

On one hand “you’ll wait to see the evidence” and on the other you’ll make up your own to fit your wants….
              I don’t get it.

              • Foundryman November 24th, 2014 at 23:27

What??…He didn’t jay walk which started the entire event? He wasn’t 18 and graduated in the spring?? he wasn’t unarmed? What am I making up here?
You don’t know the facts of anything that happened any more than I do…I don’t know about racism, but I do know injustice when I see it in spite of what some corrupt DA has to say about it. I will wait for the actual facts to come out, but that will probably never happen.

No, you really don’t get it…

                • Spirit of America November 24th, 2014 at 23:32

                  “He didn’t jay walk”

He wasn’t shot because of jaywalking, and you know that.

                  “corrupt DA”
Any proof? He was elected by his community several times now.

And even if the da was corrupt, how did he manage to corrupt 9 fellow citizens?

No, you are not waiting for the facts to come out, that is my point. You just said the da is corrupt w/out any evidence and said same about at least 9 other people who you don’t even have the names of!

                  • Foundryman November 24th, 2014 at 23:41

It was on the news all day how the DA manipulated the evidence and managed this GJ. Some of the countries most prominent layers said they have never seen a GJ run this way, ever. Souinds kind of fishy to me, if I want to call it corrupt, I will.
You only see what you want to see. You think the kid deserved it, had it coming, I don’t.
The DA doesn’t have to corrupt nine jurors…all he has to do is manipulate the evidence which is done everyday by corrupt DA’s all over the country. But you keep being naive about it and praise the good work when the next kid gets gunned down.

                    • Spirit of America November 24th, 2014 at 23:47

Interesting, I never said if the kid deserved it or not.
No, I see what there is to see, I don’t make stuff up or connect dots when there aren’t any to connect yet.

                  • Foundryman November 24th, 2014 at 23:46

If he would have stayed on the sidewalk, Wilson would have drove right on by, since he received no call of any cigarellos being stolen, so yes, it was about jay walking….
Jesus christ..you think I make up things??? You only see what you want and pay no attention what you don’t want to see…..

                    • Spirit of America November 24th, 2014 at 23:49

“since he received no call of any cigarellos being stolen”
Read the gj’s evidence/time line when it comes out for public reading… you won’t believe me, but the cop did know of the robbery, it is why he left the baby-in-distress call he was on. And the description of the 2 kids went over the radio. Recorded radio.

                    • Foundryman November 24th, 2014 at 23:52

Is his statement part of the timeline??
Hmmmm..maybe that evidence was manipulated for the GJ….

Police officer was looking for two thugs that had just stolen items from a store and law enforcement still believes these were the two guys, they ditched the products, they weren’t jay walking, they were walking in the center of the road.

    • mcalleyboy November 25th, 2014 at 05:25

Gun down unarmed people? This poor kid was 6 feet plus and was beating a police officer and trying to grab the police officers weapon. Are you willing to open up your wallet and pay for 11 million illegal immigrants, most from Latin America, it’s not bad but these illegals come here for free health care and social benefits and then send the money home.

He didn’t have to initiate a confrontation with him at all. Except that’s what hotdog cops do.

              • Foundryman November 25th, 2014 at 00:27

What??…He didn’t jay walk which started the entire event? He wasn’t 18 and graduated in the spring?? he wasn’t unarmed? What am I making up here?
You don’t know the facts of anything that happened any more than I do…I don’t know about racism, but I do know injustice when I see it in spite of what some corrupt DA has to say about it. I will wait for the actual facts to come out, but that will probably never happen.

No, you really don’t get it…

                • Spirit of America November 25th, 2014 at 00:32

                  “He didn’t jay walk”

He wasn’t shot because of jaywalking, and you know that.

                  “corrupt DA”
Any proof? He was elected by his community several times now.

And even if the da was corrupt, how did he manage to corrupt 9 fellow citizens?

No, you are not waiting for the facts to come out, that is my point. You just said the da is corrupt w/out any evidence and said same about at least 9 other people who you don’t even have the names of!

                  • Foundryman November 25th, 2014 at 00:41

It was on the news all day how the DA manipulated the evidence and managed this GJ. Some of the countries most prominent layers said they have never seen a GJ run this way, ever. Souinds kind of fishy to me, if I want to call it corrupt, I will.
You only see what you want to see. You think the kid deserved it, had it coming, I don’t.
The DA doesn’t have to corrupt nine jurors…all he has to do is manipulate the evidence which is done everyday by corrupt DA’s all over the country. But you keep being naive about it and praise the good work when the next kid gets gunned down.

                    • Spirit of America November 25th, 2014 at 00:47

Interesting, I never said if the kid deserved it or not.
No, I see what there is to see, I don’t make stuff up or connect dots when there aren’t any to connect yet.

                  • Foundryman November 25th, 2014 at 00:46

If he would have stayed on the sidewalk, Wilson would have drove right on by, since he received no call of any cigarellos being stolen, so yes, it was about jay walking….
Jesus christ..you think I make up things??? You only see what you want and pay no attention what you don’t want to see…..

                    • Spirit of America November 25th, 2014 at 00:49

“since he received no call of any cigarellos being stolen”
Read the gj’s evidence/time line when it comes out for public reading… you won’t believe me, but the cop did know of the robbery, it is why he left the baby-in-distress call he was on. And the description of the 2 kids went over the radio. Recorded radio.

                    • Foundryman November 25th, 2014 at 00:52

Funny how that “evidence’ pops up now. The day it happened the towns own police chief said the exact opposite….
Is his statement part of the timeline??
Hmmmm..maybe that evidence was manipulated for the GJ….

                    • Spirit of America November 25th, 2014 at 00:53

Tell you what… emotions are high, we’re at a cross-roads. Lets continue this when the gj is made public for all, then go from there, sound fair?

                    • Foundryman November 25th, 2014 at 00:54

                      Sure, i’m tired anyway…i gotta get going…

                    • Spirit of America November 25th, 2014 at 00:55

                      rgr that, rest deep!

                    • whatthe46 November 25th, 2014 at 01:09

exactly right. the police chief made that statement in a press conference that wilson knew nothing about the store incident and that it had nothing to do with it. and that was days later. he also said he knew of no injuries that wilson said he received.

                    • R.J. Carter November 25th, 2014 at 10:45

Once we enter the imagined realm of “manipulated evidence for the GJ,” there’s no room left for debate.

                    • mea_mark November 25th, 2014 at 14:20

You’re right, it is simply corruption.

              • whatthe46 November 25th, 2014 at 00:31

are you serious? he did just graduate from high school and he was only jay walking.

            • mcalleyboy November 25th, 2014 at 06:26

Police officer was looking for two thugs that had just stolen items from a store and law enforcement still believes these were the two guys, they ditched the products, they weren’t jay walking, they were walking in the center of the road.

    • mcalleyboy November 25th, 2014 at 06:25

Gun down unarmed people? This poor kid was 6 feet plus and was beating a police officer and trying to grab the police officers weapon. Are you willing to open up your wallet and pay for 11 million illegal immigrants, most from Latin America, it’s not bad but these illegals come here for free health care and social benefits and then send the money home.
