Images: 3-Year-Old Shot In The Face While Playing With A Gun Is Son Of Gun Enthusiast

The 3-year-old Washington boy who was shot in the face by a 4-year-old while playing with a gun, is the son of a vocal opponent of the Washington State gun safety ballot initiative, I-594.

The boy was shot by a neighbor with an unsecured firearm in his own home.

The passage of I-594 was backed by Moms Demand Action.

Jon Holzwarth, the boy’s father, campaigned against the initiative, according to his Facebook page.

He also shared this image of his daughter with her new rifle.

He also features an image of the injured child posing in front of his vehicle with a bumper sticker that reads, “My Gun Family.”

Local News pointed out Mr. Holzwarth’s Jeep parked outside his condominium with the sticker on his vehicle.

And the front door sign which reads, We don’t Dial 911″ with the image of a gun underneath. Although, he did call 911 when his own child was shot in the face due to irresponsible gun ownership.

Jon Holzwarth of “Simple Security Solutions:”

Holzwarth’s son, who is currently listed in critical condition at a Seattle area hospital:

The toddler was shot in the face, likely due to the negligence of a gun enthusiast.

According to police, the 4-year-old may have accidentally shot the 3-year-old, but they are still investigating the incident.

On the passage of 1-594, Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, said, “Moms took the fight to keep our children safe from gun violence to a new grassroots level – and the election results show that while the gun lobby can bully politicians, they can’t bully the American people at the voting booth.”

I hope the little boy can one day smile again.  His father is the poster boy for what’s wrong with this country. He fought tooth and nail against background checks, and any sort of gun safety measure. Children are “accidentally” shot daily but there are no politicians with the balls to stand up and do something. It’s difficult to feel sorry for Jon because he’s one of the reasons that we can’t have a civil conversation about guns.

In 2010, Mr. Holzwarth said, “When seconds count and police are minutes away, you need people like me who are mentally stable and know how to handle a gun. We need to be out there, in your park, in your theater, in your stadium.”

Our hearts go out to his little boy.

Big thanks to my friend for the information.

I really don’t get you guys. It goes on and on. Here’s a judge in Victoria, BC who probably defines the question pretty well.http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Victoria+judge+says+astonished+careless+attitude+toward+guns/10407031/story.html

“We don’t dial 911.” What did he do when his 3 year old was shot by an unsecured gun he irresponsibly left loaded and lying around? Darwinism kills gun nuts.

He needs to be charged with a crime. We need to stop pretending like it’s not a criminal act to value your child so little that you won’t put a $4 trigger lock on a gun. Don’t reply with the tripe of “he’s suffering enough” bs. I’m sure Dianne Downs feels like she’s suffering too, that doesn’t mean she’s not a criminal. He needs to be in handcuffs right now and in jail.

    • viva_democracy November 23rd, 2014 at 16:47

I agree. A gun is a weapon of death. No matter how they try to spin it. When you don’t lock up your gun and a tragedy like this happens, the Parent who is supposed to be the responsible one should be charged criminally.
Remember, Adam Lanza’s Mom didn’t lock up the guns either.

Well this much for sure, he’ll be reminded every time he looks at his sons face from now on and the saddest part is so will the son every time he looks in a mirror.

He’s got a lot of reality from his inaction of securing the weapon to deal with, and that’s even before 1 charge is filed.

        • Judy Rae Jackson November 25th, 2014 at 04:12

BUT will this guy learn from it? He won’t be charged with a crime because they never are. The DA will say “it is a family tragedy” which it absolutely is. Gun fetishists can RATIONALIZE anything & smart money says this guy has at least 4 good explanations/excuses as to HOW these kids got the gun.

It wasn’t his gun. It was a neighbor’s, learn how to read you moron.

      • RichardCrow November 23rd, 2014 at 17:31

        Speaking of morons

A neighbor child, visiting the HOLZWARTH household, shot the HOLZWARTH child in the face with the HOLZWARTH’S unsecured gun.

Stock up on windex before YOU start throwing stones, ‘kay?

Whoever owned the gun should be charged but dad can take full responsibility for his young child loving guns and seeing them as fun.

      • Stacey Hall November 24th, 2014 at 22:03

Actually, it was his gun that the 4 year old neighbor shot his son with in his bedroom. I’m quite capable of reading, to the point that I have read multiple articles on it that all stated the exact same thing. His son was shot with his gun by his neighbors kid. He had to break HIS bedroom door in to get to the kids.
Thank you so much for your insightful and witty attempt at an internet burn regarding my intelligence that simply proved the lack of your own though.

Poor baby. I can’t imagine (thank goodness). For all his talk, what he seemingly fails to realize is that you can’t force others to be responsible without the proper laws in place.Even then it’s a gamble.

Can we NOT bully a man that just lost his son for the sake of a political point?

    Have some class.

    • RichardCrow November 23rd, 2014 at 17:27

The child did NOT die and is not expected to.

How about we not bury a child before he dies, m’kay?

      • Tommy6860 November 23rd, 2014 at 17:29

How about gun nuts whose fetishes put this child’s life at risk. Takes a lot of brass to have a sticker that expresses guns as families while one of his own gets the bullet because stupidity on gun safety.

      • Rick Derris November 23rd, 2014 at 17:29

        My mistake.

Thank you for pointing it out.

Carry on, everyone. Nothing to see here.

    • Judy Rae Jackson November 23rd, 2014 at 17:33

MAYBE if this jackass actually FOLLOWED gun safety rules, his son wouldn’t be in the hospital? This cretin should be charged with criminal negligence at the VERY least. He left guns in an unsecured area where TODDLERS could find them & play with them. So much for him being any kind of “responsible”. CPS should investigate this household to see how many guns are lying around where toddlers can find them.

    • Bridgett Cash November 23rd, 2014 at 17:43

Maybe if the father cared more for common sense than his abnormal love of guns his son wouldn’t be fighting for his life. His son is a toddler. Who do we blame when these things happen? It’s not an “accident, it is negligence.” Pure and Simple. How many more children will die or have died, in part, due to people like this father? Fighting for the rights of gun owners but not for the right for other children to be safe.

    • tracey marie November 23rd, 2014 at 17:53

his political fight and views is why his son was shot

    • Mandy Sue November 24th, 2014 at 03:34

This isn’t about class. This is about responsibility for his actions, and sorry to say but this father deserves every bit of guilt and anguish he feels and will always feel, but maybe others will learn from this.

      • Mandy Sue November 24th, 2014 at 03:35

what is worse is this was fairly predictable.

    • Greg November 24th, 2014 at 19:06

This isn’t a political point. Calling for gun laws that will make people safer isn’t a political issue, it’s a safety issue. He put his gun fetish above his family. Hate to say this, he deserves this. His child did not but he did. Anyone who is dumb enough to put a gun in the hands of a 5 year old (his daughter) needs a wake up call. Unfortunately his son was his wake up call.

Two of these images stand out:

-The front door sign: Just be sure to shoot anyone who also may have a medical emergency, that way, we save on tax dollars and insurance costs.

    – My Gun Family vehicle sticker: Simply expresses family values in the least importance. Earth to guns nuts, bullets aren’t the seeds that makes families.

The image that really stands out:

The one of that little boy who will never be the same, because love of weapons supersedes that of a person’s well being. :'(

““When seconds count and police are minutes away, you need people like me who are mentally stable and know how to handle a gun.”

If your baby gets shot because you did NOT secure your gun, you do NOT know how to handle a gun. As your baby shows in horrible detail, you are EXACTLY the type of people who we DON’T need. When gun fetishism takes precedence over the safety of your children, I don’t even think you should have custody of EITHER of your kids. And in light of recent events, I seriously doubt the mentally stable part.

I hope the father is criminally prosecuted because it was most directly his fault what happened to that child.

And why is it ok to take your small child coyote killing? It’s teaching your child how to be a sociopath. We are a sick society and these are the symptoms. It’s time to stand up to this madness and gun fetishist attitude
