Keith Law, one of the best baseball columnists in the business today was suspended by ESPN for arguing on twitter with creationists (including former major leaguer, Curt Schilling.

Schilling, the former pitcher who rejoined ESPN as a baseball analyst in September after eight months away to deal with mouth cancer, took to Twitter on Nov. 12 to rail against evolution and in favor of creationism.

Law jumped in with a series of Tweets—slightly fractious, but fact-based and generally respectful—disputing Schilling’s claims, and those of other Twitter users.

ESPN, owned by ABC, which is owned by Disney, and Disney’s main business is making fantasy movies. So…?

      BOOM!

      • M D Reese November 22nd, 2014 at 11:55

Was that the sound of a creationist’s head exploding as a tiny bit of truth and reality got through?

        • Anomaly 100 November 22nd, 2014 at 14:16

Nah, that was just that big bang theory thingy.

          • M D Reese November 22nd, 2014 at 15:17

            Ah yes.
That’s also my favorite show. It’s the only TV show that I actually set an alert for.

            • Anomaly 100 November 22nd, 2014 at 18:10

No, I totally meant the actual Big Bang. Never saw the show:-)

              • M D Reese November 22nd, 2014 at 19:40

Sorry–I wasn’t being clear. What I meant was that besides the actual Big Bang, I like the show too.

I cOnFuSe easily. My bad. I need to see the show. I’ve heard good things about it.

I didn’t watch it until it had been on for a few years. I finally caught a marathon, and was hooked. It’s just a really good, very very smart ensemble show that works really well. The characters are people that I wouldn’t mind hanging out with.

Shilling has brain meltdown gets called on it and the announcer gets the shaft..

    • Tommy6860 November 22nd, 2014 at 09:25

Funny how the media and facts work that way, huh?

      • rg9rts November 22nd, 2014 at 09:37

Equal time for creationists I suppose

        • M D Reese November 22nd, 2014 at 11:54

“both sides do it!” is the one that drives me nuts. One thing is not just like the other.

    • GreatLakeSailor November 22nd, 2014 at 11:02

      It’s Authoritarianism 101:
      StarPower(Curt Schilling) > StarPower(Keith Law) therefore
..Curt Schilling right, Keith Law wrong

Authoritarianism dictates the rightness or wrongness of any situation lies in the Actors, not in the Act itself. Ex: SkyDaddy murders every infant, juvenile & adult in an entire city because of conduct by some inhabitants SkyDaddy didn’t like. Murdering all these human beings was a ‘Good’ and ‘Righteous’ act because SkyDaddy did it.

Schilling should be kicked to the curb for being an idiot.

Of course I’m bias here but the very least they could have done was kick them both to the curb.

    • Hirightnow November 22nd, 2014 at 10:07

What? And deny Schilling his freedom of religion?

And I thought the only reason I hated Schilling was he was a former Red Sox (Sock?). (Yankee fan here.) Now there’s this.

ESPN claims his suspension has nothing to do with his tweets, but they don’t say what was behind it. A little shading of the truth there?

Modern Evolution produces half of all 100 meter champions today from Jamaica! Since 1948, Jamaica has won 13 Olympic gold medals in track competitions. http://www.npr.org/2012/05/04/151956595/a-need-for-speed-inside-jamaicas-sprint-factory People of West African genetic origins, including many Jamaicans brought there by slave ships, are known to have more “fast-twitch” muscle fibers, which produce energy from the body’s sugar rather than oxygen, and are good for short, intense bursts of activity. Based on materials provided by Rutgers University.http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/11/141117164411.htm

Not surprisingly, there’s nothing about this on the ESPN site. Law’s last blog post is Nov 17. And he is one of the more popular writers on the site.

Isn’t it strange that thousands upon thousands of scientists, researching, testing and publishing for centuries have proven evolution yet the theory is disproven and the scientists discredited by a washed-up jock on twitter?

    • starskeptic November 22nd, 2014 at 14:11

Yes, who knew that that’s all it would take? Could have saved time for the lot of us.
