The War on Women couldn’t save Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.), but it did save 20 out of 21 Republican committee chairmanships for the white guys who wage it. Just two years after their 2012 election thrashing at the hands of women, minority, and young voters forced them to commission a
soul-searching “autopsy report,” Republicans have managed to exactly duplicate their feat of shutting women out of almost every committee chairmanship. In 2012, Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio)
named one woman, Rep. Candice Miller (R-Ohio), to a chairmanship after intense media backlash over the other 20 white male chairmen who had already been appointed.
Well, the results are in for the new Congress, and the score is Candice Miller: 1, white dudes: 19, Portuguese dudes: 1. That ratio is apparently no problem for House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), who responded to criticism from MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough this morning by quickly almost naming two women…READ MORE

Republicans realize that they have an inroad to power every midterm election cycle, so even after they get shellacked in 2016, they’ll fallback into the echo chamber and wait to ride the voter apathy wave back to the Senate, House, whatever they can grasp. But it won’t last. Their chief demographic is dying, so by 2022 I expect even voter apathy will have the power to make Republicans relevant.

boner holds Rep. Candice Miller in high regard “”We wouldn’t be where we are today in making the people’s House less costly and more accountable without Candice Miller”. Can’t have a woman working on issues concerning the military or jobs, something of substance. Silly woman can’t understand all the complexities that is needed to make deals and compromise, maybe he should give a class on that at the local college and share his valuable “skills”.

Love how the image is the one Rachel Maddow used on MSNBC — with the bottom row trimmed out so that no female representation, such as it is, would be shown.

You mean the only one that is represented? Anyway, that image is actually from the video of The Morning Joe showing the incoming committee members, not that it was trimmed for effect.

I believe that the chairMANship that they gave her is basically housekeeping. They really should just stop even pretending and start advocating for what they really want–to repeal the 19th amendment. And probably the 13th, 14th and 15th while they’re at it. And the New Deal, and Social Security, and…
