White House: Peter Kassig’s Family Requested Use Of Muslim Name In Obama Statement

Over the weekend, ISIS released a video depicting the immediate aftermath of the murder of American aid worker Peter Edward Kassig, who adopted the Muslim name Abdul-Rahman Kassig while in captivity following his apparent conversion. The White House has confirmed the authenticity, and Kassig’s death, and in a statement released on Sunday, President Obama called the murder “an act of pure evil.”

In that statement, the president referred to Kassig as “Abdul-Rahman Kassig, also known to us as Peter,” and referred to him as “Abdul-Rahman” throughout the rest of the statement. That decision has some conservative bloggers criticizing the president for “proselytizing for Islam,” while still other Muslim-bashing conservatives are using Kassig’s apparent conversion to suggest he got what was coming to him.

    This seems to be a fine, strong and good family. Their agony over the loss of their son has not stopped them from being intelligent and honoring their sons decision

    Maybe the family requested the use of his Muslim name to show fellow Muslims that ISIS is killing them and not just infidels. He went there as a civilian to help the population, he was a good man who brought no harm to the area and they slaughtered him as if he meant nothing.

    It appears this execution may not have gone according to plan and that Mr. Kassig may have fought his captors to deny them any additional PR value other than to display what is reported as his severed head at the feet of his alleged assassin, the familiar British convert featured in the previous productions.

    It appears this execution may not have gone according to plan and that Mr. Kassig may have fought his captors to deny them any additional PR value other than to display what is reported as his severed head at the feet of his alleged assassin, the familiar British convert featured in the previous productions.
