Gov Rick Perry Joins List Of Republicans That Don’t Understand Net Neutrality

Posted by | November 14, 2014 18:30 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

Gov Rick Perry joins the list of Republicans who have no idea what Net Neutrality is, but they do know that President Obama is for it so they are against it.

For the record: the Internet was not around during the Great Depression, but the Texas Governor is going with that and a few other falsehoods.

Watchdog.org reports:

“President Obama’s call to saddle 21st century technology with outdated, unnecessary regulations from the era of the Great Depression is alarming and will stifle innovation and growth,” Perry said in a statement, attributing Texas’ prosperity to “regulatory certainty and major private investments in critical technology infrastructure.”

“Instead, we should embrace a business and regulatory climate that encourages competition and empowers consumers with greater choice and access to high-speed Internet and all the business, consumer, education and health care benefits that come with it,” he said.

Republican presidential hopeful U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, also of Texas, called net neutrality “Obamacare for the Internet” after Obama’s announcement.

It’s obvious that Tea Party Ted has no idea what Net Neutrality is either:

Follow the money:

Some of the Republicans who criticized net neutrality most vocally this week have also collected big donations from the telecom industry. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) received $317,825 from these companies, while incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) received $159,925. The five members of Congress who received the biggest donations from this group are all Republicans.

I found this video at Liberal America, and it takes only 4 minutes to understand what this topic is about.

Net Neutrality gives you more freedom. It doesn’t take freedom from you.

Burnt Orange Report reports:

With net neutrality, it is not up to private companies to control access to corners to its preferred corners of the Internet. The web remains a free and open space, which is ironically what Perry is defending dishonestly. The Internet is a unique access-dependent and expression-heavy medium that requires new laws, like net neutrality, to maintain its integrity.

I read it and I when I think I understand something, I’m usually wrong.

Here is all that Republican politicians care to know on the issue:

Lobbyists will hand you fat envelopes of money for opposing net neutrality.

The arrow to start the video blocks the letter ‘n’, making it look like it says “defend et neutrality.”
When it comes to space aliens, I prefer they be neutral, but that’s just me….

The internet is already free and doing very well and the government does not need to get it’s slimy hands on it in any way.

    • StoneyCurtisll November 14th, 2014 at 22:14

“if the left likes the idea of “net neutrality” then it should be
opposed because this is just a subterfuge for something more sinister”…
You seem to be obsessed by paranoid delusions..
Perhaps you would like to attempt to explain how you perceive ‘net neutrality’ to be an evil Obama inspired plot.

    • StoneyCurtisll November 14th, 2014 at 22:24

      Wayout says…
“The internet is already free and doing very well”..
I have one simple question for Wayout…
Where are you getting free internet access?

      • rg9rts November 15th, 2014 at 02:02

        Gopee mouthpiece…a regular twit

      • Wayout November 15th, 2014 at 05:36

I meant FREE FROM GOVERNMENT CONTROLS – and it should be left that way. What do you want, the Federal government to pay for this too?

    • Anomaly 100 November 15th, 2014 at 06:07

      Wayout,

With all due respect, saying Net Neutrality is a government takeover of sorts is a bold face lie which you are circulating.

Most Conservatives get it. Ted Cruz’s Facebook page was bombarded with Conservatives who are outraged over his remarks. It’s only Republicans who don’t mind licking Comcast’s boots.

    • Roctuna November 15th, 2014 at 12:46

Would you like a tiered system for your phone? You’ll have to pay a premium if you’d like your call to be connected in a timely fashion, otherwise, wait til phone traffic is low and maybe the phone company will complete your call. How about electricity? Perhaps you’d prefer to pay a low base rate for a limited number of kilowatts/day? If you want full power 24/7, well that’s a premium level of service. You’re name is wayout so maybe you would prefer things that way, who knows? Govm’t regulation does not equal govm’t oppression. It can prevent oppression of the public by unscrupulous utility providers. The internet you say you like is currently neutral, let’s keep it that way.

The internet is already free and doing very well and the government does not need to get it’s slimy hands on it in any way. Once again Obama tells you he will improve something and make it more fair. Given his track record on veracity, why should we believe him this time? And you are right, if the left likes the idea of “net neutrality” then it should be opposed because this is just a subterfuge for something more sinister.
