9-Year-Old Florida Girl Shoots 8-Year-Old Brother In The Head
An 8-year-old Florida boy was shot in the head Wednesday night by his 9-year-old sister (not pictured) with five children under the age of 10 home at the time.
The boy was flown to a children’s hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
According to WESH, their mother, 39-year-old Tonya Charles, often leaves the children unattended.
“It was inevitable that it was soon to happen,” Richard Farr said, a preacher and handyman said. “One time she was gone for two weeks at a time. One time the kids didn’t know where she was, nobody knew where she was, and finally she showed back up again.”
Police said they have not located Charles yet.
After the shooting, the children went to a neighbor’s house for help.
“I was watching TV. All of a sudden I hear like [a] firecracker and two seconds later I hear this kid screaming,” Zoraida Medina, a nearby neighbor said.
“How you going to have a gun loaded with small kids in the house? Why? Fine, you can have a gun in the house, but not loaded. I call that stupidity.”
While the older children were out, the child found her mother’s gun, according to investigators.
“Not to make an early assumption here, we don’t know what happened, but as an overall message things like this [are] the reason why it’s important to maintain your firearms and keep them put away and keep them out of reach,” Sgt. Chris Estes of the DeLand Police Department said.
Estes added that there is still an investigation underway they are not sure if anyone will be charged. So I assume they’ll be charging the gun then. Or the little girl for being subjected to her mother’s stupidity.
When a kid is “accidentally” shot in the head, an adult should face charges.

Mom takes off and leaves the children, sometimes for weeks at a time?
The 19-year-old is a legal adult and should have known better than to leave the other children unattended. If was absolutely necessary to go to the store, s/he should have brought along the younger children — or at least taken the gun away and left the 15-year-old.

Wait…. this is the 19 year olds fault? You expect a kid that was brought up in this environment to “KNOW BETTER”??? You’re a SPECIAL KINDA STUPID AIN’T YOU???

That sonic boom you heard was my point passing your head.
19-year-olds are considered old enough to join the military, attend college, vote, live on their own, and own property. Taking proper care of siblings is well within their capabilities (with the obvious exceptions of those with mental illness, mental retardation, drug addiction, or physical incapacity).
In households with irresponsible parents, there’s at least one child who takes on the day-to-day responsibilities of the household. So, yeah, I would expect the 19-year-old to keep the other children safe.
