9-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shoots Himself In The Chest While Playing With A Gun

A 9-year-old Detroit boy found a gun and “accidentally” shot himself with the inanimate object at about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Detroit Police say the boy was playing with the gun after finding it in the home when he accidentally fired a shot into his chest, according to WXYZ.

A nearby neighbor, Eugene Matthews, says he saw a 13-year-old run to his house begging for help.

The 9-year-old was reportedly home alone with a 10-year-old at the time of the shooting.

According to WXYZ, this marks the third instance in the past two weeks that a child found a gun at home and accidentally shot themselves.

In the other two shootings, the parents were charged with child abuse.

It’s not clear if authorities will pursue charges against the mother of the 9-year-old. The boy is dead.

That’s terrible, if there was any justice he would have accidently shot the dumb ass that left the gun lying around.

    Tragic and frequent.
“Injuries from firearms send an estimated 7,000 kids to the ER every year, and an additional 3,000 children die from gunshot wounds before they can get to a hospital, according to a new study published in the journal Pediatrics. Doctors are pointing to the new data as further evidence of the serious public health toll that gun violence takes on America’s youth. ”

Two young children home alone with an easily grabbed, loaded gun? How is this not criminal negligence on the part of the absent adult(s)
    ??

BTW, Thank’s NRA for more dead children due to your guns anywhere, anytime, for anything policies that have made tragedies like this possible, and all too common!

Another day, another family’s life changed forever due to the easy access to firearms. Thank you, NRA. We couldn’t have gotten to this point without you.

Perhaps ‘Child Endangerment’ would seem suitable as well??? People need to grow up, I rarely see child overdoses due to parents not leaving their meds where they are not easily accessible….

Fla charged a woman with felony child abuse for letting a 12 yr old drive – its the very least a parent should get when their neglect causes the death of their child. What a shame this boy will never grow up, who knows what his destiny could have been. Shameful.
