Mayor Accused Of ‘Flashing Gang Sign’ When Posing With Black Voter Outreach Worker

Mayor Betsy Hodges was caught in the act pointing at a black man while the two posed for a picture together. No wait, that’s not the story. The breaking story by an ABC affiliate is that she and Navell Gordon, one of the top canvassers on voting rights for Neighborhoods Organizing for Change, were reportedly flashing gang signs, yo.

Welcome to #Pointergate.

Shaun King at the Daily Kos reports, “To better understand the context, please take just one minute to watch the beginning of the video below. Pay particular attention at 0:32-0:39 as Navell and Mayor Hodges share a clumsy “how do we pose in this photo together” moment.”

Watch:

Bloods and Crips all the way.

Jay Kolls with KTSP  totally freaked out in an article titled, “Mayor Flashes Gang Sign with Convicted Felon.” Yes, he was convicted of a drug charge, not unlike a recent Republican politician recently. Think Progress reports:

The report asserts that law enforcement sources are “fuming” and “want to know why the mayor would take a picture with a convicted criminal while he and the mayor flash gang signs.” Retired police officer Michael Quinn claims the two are “flashing gang signs back and forth at each other showing solidarity with the gangs.”

He infers from there that Hodges is “legitimizing these people that are killing our children in Minneapolis.” Minneapolis Police Federation President John DelMonico said Hodges should “know better” and that the photo could “incite gang violence in the city.” Hodges’ office had another explanation for those cryptic hand signals: they were just pointing at one another.

OH sure, a likely story. They were pointing at each other. That’s exactly what a gangsta would say.

BOOM!

Imagine if they had hugged. The outrage from Mr. Kolls would be deafening. “Gang banger rapes white woman.”
