The Mandate That Isn’t

Next vote, no napping.

Hey guys, remember the other day we had an election? And several of us predicted the turn-out would be low?

Guess what?! We were right: the turn-out was a miserable 36.6% to be exact.

So whenever some Wingnut or member of Y’all Qaeda tells you that they got a mandate in 2014, you can refer them to this:

Voter Turnout By State

Just a few highlights:

  • Mississippi: 29.7
  • Indiana: 28%
  • Oklahoma: 29.8%

They didn’t even get a majority of voters in their own strongholds, not even in the deep south.

Now, we know that their strategy was to break the government and point out how the government was broken (successful), to gerrymander safe districts for their candidates (successful), and to supress the vote (very successful), but if we can discern anything from the data, it is that no one got a mandate.

It might have been low but the rwnj managed to vote and win. We only have ourselves to blame, shame on the liberals for staying home.

      I did my part..

you have a lot less to worry about working perpetually in a Chinese rice field. No bills, no holiday jitters, and – you’ll get to tell each generation to generation to generation how you were a part of making Romney the richest Greedy Bishop in the whole wide world!
          Yeeeeaaaaa!
who needs freedom if they can be a part of Romney’s vast wealth?

easy to avoid. Use you name in different variations in different towns with different addresses. It’d be like taking a state wide tour to tell Repugs FU2! (it also works in larger townships with different polling precincts -as long as nobody looks up) or you could use entirely different ID’s in different states/towns – just let your imagination roam freely – kinda like Repugs do in offshore banking.

Many libs did go to the polls, but you know, Voter ID Laws, etc. Kind of a bummer, huh?

This is why State/Local elections matter—at least until there is a uniform, Federal voting standard. You think Kansas kept Gov. Brownback in office because the electorate loved him as he destroys their economy and standard of living, or because Kris Kobach loved him?

IDK, looks like the republicans got a mandate to keep on cheating when it comes to elections, gerrymandering is working and voter suppression is working and the courts seem to be letting them do it. Cheating is becoming the American way for republicans.

    • Tengrain November 6th, 2014 at 18:56

Cheating is what they did but they didn’t take pride in it. Now they take pride in it and revel in it. They are nationalizing it throughout their base. The republican party is leading America down the path of deception and false pride. It is becoming OK to cheat and take pride in it. GOP Jesus is smiling and cleaning his guns, his children have their buybulls and they are ready to follow his orders. It won’t be long now … you reap what you sow.

Funny! The Dems have been gerrymandering my State for decades… As for suppressing the vote, the Republicans had a secret weapon – Obama!

“64 percent of white men voted for Republicans. It’s the “widest GOP advantage in this group in data since 1984,” according to ABC News…The Democrats got their asses handed to them by a white male electorate that turned out in an effort to fight their eroding cultural dominance…” — Damn right we did!

Not only is it a mandate it’s a resounding mandate. Sorry but the Bamster said his policies were on the ballot. –

“I am not on the ballot this fall. Michelle’s pretty happy about that. But make no mistake: These policies are on the ballot. Every single one of them,”

The voters that showed up rejected the democrats and the voters who stayed home rejected them also. It’s a laugh to pick 3 states where effectively NOTHING was on the ballot as an example. but you guys have to tell yourselves lies.In nearly every state with a Senator on the ballot turnout was the same or higher than 2006, 2010, midterms.Tom Steyer spent 74 million dollars on this election. almost $10 mill of it in 2 senate races, in Iowa and Colorado. How much was spent trying to oust one governor Scott Walker? Would you spend that kind of money if a mandate wasn’t at stake? Now that the mandate is realized, what has the DNC done? Pulled the money from Mary Landrieu’s run off campaign.

None of the democrat missdirections paid off,
    Rabble rousing in Ferguson,
the Hobby Lobby war on women campaign
    Harry Reid’s Koch obsession
    Minimum wage

On the other hand, Every Republican who campaigned on repealing obamacare won.

Where Does Health Care Rank As A Voting Issue?

      ,,,,,

However, health care does not appear to be the dominant issue on voters’ minds when thinking about how to vote in November. Asked to name in their own words the two most important issues in deciding their vote for Congress, the most frequently-mentioned issue is the economy and jobs (21 percent). Thirteen percent of voters name health care as a top issue, including just 3 percent who specifically mention the Affordable Care Act. Those who view the law favorably are about equally likely to mention health care as a top issue in their vote as are those with an unfavorable view (12 percent versus 15 percent).

The only mandate that happened on Tuesday was the mandate showing that gerrymandering for the GOP has been successful.

Despite the rantings of right wing ideologues such as the example below, those of us who actually think before forming opinions, recognize the realities of the catastrophe last Tuesday.

Make no mistake about it, the Democratic party and some of the candidates are to blame. But a big part of the problem is illustrated by what happened in Pennsylvania.

Right wingers you do not have a mandate, no matter what Rush told you.

    http://billmoyers.com/2014/11/05/gerrymandering-rigged-2014-elections-republican-advantage/

Here’s an example from the election last night. In Pennsylvania, one state in which the GOP drew the congressional districts in a brazenly partisan way, Democratic candidates collected 44 percent of the vote, yet Democratic candidates won only 5 House seats out of 18. In other words, Democrats secured only 27 percent of Pennsylvania’s congressional seats despite winning nearly half of the votes. See the graph below:

I believe there are many reasons for the election results, and most of the obvious ones have been stated (go to any site or ‘news’ outlet and you’ll see the ones that make that side look good, then go to the other side’s sites/news channels to get other reasons, again the ones that make their side look good), and add them all up. It is like a program, it is not just 1 line of code, but many added up to make the program(result).
But one that I haven’t seen yet and i believe existed(seen through conversations & chats) is simply some people no longer believe ‘their side’ is so great either and while they won’t vote for the ‘other’ side, they didn’t feel good enough to vote for their side and so why go.
Now no where near the entire reason, but I believe a lot of reasons added up to a large result: low turn out.
