Bill Burton About Smacked The Stuffing Out Of Chris Matthews On MSNBC Wednesday
It was with some satisfaction, then, that I watched former Obama spox Bill Burton impatiently put a stop to this silliness on Now with Alex Wagner today. Burton and Matthews got into it over immigration reform, with Matthews pimping the magical deal that Tip and Gip would have made, and Burton was like “Hell’s no.”
Things were getting kind of heated when Alex Wagner rescued them by changing the subject, but look at how Burton and Matthews are eye-murdering each other as Wagner tosses to Patricia Murphy:
“Chris, I feel like I’m living in a different world than the one that you’re living in, because to listen to you talk about this bill, and the President’s not selling it and blah, blah, blah, the problem is the bill has been passed by the United States Senate, and they will not move on it in the House, period. That’s it. That’s why.”
Also, in case you’re wondering, Burton is right, pathway to citizenship is consistently supported in polls, by overwhelming margins.
Luckily, Matthews and Burton weren’t done yet. Matthews swooped back in to fap about Reagan some more, and Burton straight-up laughed in his face…READ MORE

It doesn’t matter what the polls say, Congress has their own agenda. They do what their real supporters, big money, want them to do. They don’t represent the whole country. They use the fact that a minority of eligible voters put them in office to claim they have a mandate. If more of the people who answered the polls actually voted, there might be a different crowd in Congress.

Congress has no agenda. Never has. Never will. It is like herding rabbits. Are you saying that Tea Party whackos and Establishment Republicans can head down the same road with totally different constituencies. My God man, the Republican Party today looks like the Democratic Party in the 70s and 80s. Totally at war with itself.
This election win was not the result of common ideas on policy. It was the result of what was perceived as a common enemy – the President.
I cannot wait to see the fissures that will soon become apparent when this party tries to elect a speaker.

Tweety would have to cut my mic because I am a loud mouthed Southerner who hardly ever gets out-shouted. I don’t what his show because I want to be given things to think about that have some sense of intellect, not his babble about what a genius he thinks he is, but is not. MSNBC should take this clown off, but they keep cramming him down our throats as he runs off more viewers.

There is no comparison to Reagan tip O’Neil.
Tip O’Neil entire strategy was not to have his entire party vote “No” on everything Reagan wanted, (especially the popular policies), then blame Reagan for being polarizing.
For one huge example of this;
When Reagan was president, and we got the warning;
‘WE CAN NOT PROTECT OUR PEOPLE IN BEIRUT’ followed by the attack on the embassy resulting in 17 dead Americans.
Then
we got the warning;
‘WE CAN NOT PROTECT OUR PEOPLE IN BEIRUT’ followed by the attack on the marine barracks resulting in 241 dead Americans.
Then we got the warning;
‘WE CAN NOT PROTECT OUR PEOPLE IN BEIRUT’ followed by the attack on the embassy annex resulting in 24 dead Americans.
Not even to mention Bill Buckley.
Tip O’Neil had an investigation. One investigation and one investigation only to ascertain where our security was lax and how to improve it.
As recently as those days, politics stopped at the water’s edge, (and I feel safe in saying that I believe that if the roles had been reversed, Republicans would have behaved the same as Tip O’Neil’s Democrats did), and that is that it would have been considered unseemly, unthinkable, and obscene to dance on the graves of dead Americans just to hurt the president.
Now, thanks to the modern GOP for whom polarization IS the only strategy they have, it is standard practice.
There is no Joseph Welsh to ask of the Darrell Issas, “Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?”
Now, decency will not be allowed to get in the way of the Fabulous, GOP/Fox News Bengha$i BamboozlePalooza Extravaganza!!!
Meanwhile, In a 1998 interview with ABC News, bin Laden said the U.S. response to the Beirut bombing showed “the decline of American power and the weakness of the
American soldier, who is ready to wage cold wars but unprepared to fight long
wars. This was proven in Beirut in 1983, when the Marines fled.”
Imagine if that were Obama.
This is why I say that the Reality Based Community and Right Wing World are parallel universes.

Out of curiosity, are you saying that since leaving beruit was ‘showing weakness’ that leaving iraq & afghanastan will be perceived as such as well, or just beruit?
OldLefty November 6th, 2014 at 18:17
I think leaving Beirut was the right thing.
Osama bin Ladin said it showed weakness.
My claim is that there would be and is a very different standard.

I know the Tip is a god to Matthews (well he used to work for him as CoS), but this constant reminiscing back to those good ol’days that really were not good, is getting old; it’s 2014 Chris, so get with it! Time for Matthews to move on, seriously. He even voted for Bush in 2000, seriously.
Pilotshark November 6th, 2014 at 10:48
Yep, Tip and Ron are both gone! along with anything that resembles Congress and President relations.
another reason the Democrats need to do a shift and pivot to a pure progressive agenda! imo

Like Mike Malloy I call Matthews “Tweety” because he is just a mouth that chirps whatever he likes no matter what sense it makes. He is just a knee-jerk old man who needs to go to a retirement home and day dream of his past glory.
