It’s no surprise. It follows the pattern of both Bush 43’s and Clinton’s second term – with one very important difference:
The Dems’ losses this time were not as extensive at the federal level as those of the Prez’s parties in 1998 and 2006.
And Dems are doing better than expected in gubernatorial races.
William November 4th, 2014 at 22:58
Historically 2nd term Presidential parties will lose about 23 to 29 percent of their base half way through their second term.

ever since LYING Tommie T took the lead, state GOPs have been back peddling on Medicare in NC.
To date, Tillis hasn’t done a damn thing to help US Veterans, secure our borders or help to improve the economy – and that’s with giving him a 4+month jump over what they gave Obama in 2008! He’ll probably go down as the 2nd worst Senator from NC ever.

Tommy6860 November 4th, 2014 at 23:56
I think what hurt the dems the most was their running away from a president who may have been the most successful in history. Couple that fact with a GOP that blocked every attempt from Obama to boost the economy; we have record jobs growth as well as a record for creating jobs for 56 straight months. We have healthcare coverage, we got out of a war and will another next month.
The stock market nearly tripled and made the richer even richer, in spite of the fact they dislike the president. I could go on, but to run away from that instead of challenging the GOPers in this election on those facts, and what they didn’t do to help or what they would propose (other than “No” votes), was the dumbest f’ing thing I’ve ever seen in politics. There should be a mass firing of the campaign strategists who who doomed these dems.
dave-dr-gonzo November 5th, 2014 at 00:05
That’s why Lundergen Grimes lost it in KY. She should have said she voted for him, cited the above record, emphasized the stock market tripling and enriching MConnell – and then said that based on that last point alone, the surprise for her is that McConnell didn’t vote for Obama.
They never learned the lesson of 2000. Running away from Bill Clinton, to paraphrase Bill Maher, sure helped President Gore.
Tommy6860 November 5th, 2014 at 00:13
You know when the dems stormed in taking the senate and the house in 2006, the GOPers had to run away from Bush, but this election totally makes no sense. They also had to in 2008. Bush was a failure in many areas and that stupid assed war. But now, the dems bolt on success, WTF!!. And I agree on Grimes, her denial was beyond cringe worthy.
dave-dr-gonzo November 5th, 2014 at 00:15
The one trait Beltway Dems have shown consistently in the last generation is pure cowardice when it comes to standing up for their record of making this country great. Running away from the word “liberal”. Almost running away from defending the safety net. Running away from the guy who cut my insurance premium by 26% and killed Osama fucking bin Laden.
Wayout November 5th, 2014 at 00:32
Oh yeah, that’s why the amount of people on the government dole is at an all time high. You call that success?
Wayout November 5th, 2014 at 00:30
Most successful at what, shoving things down the throats of the American people? Dictatorial action is still not acceptable by the citizenry at large, and this night the voters spoke LOUD AND CLEAR.
As for the stock market, that is only good because the Fed has been printing money hand over foot.
Tommy6860 November 5th, 2014 at 00:33
Your GOP congress approved of that money and would have blocked any legislation to stop it. Drink some more koolaid before you come to your senses.

Wayout November 5th, 2014 at 01:32
Oh yeah, that’s why the amount of people on the government dole is at an all time high. You call that success?
Wayout November 5th, 2014 at 01:30
Most successful at what, shoving things down the throats of the American people? Dictatorial action is still not acceptable by the citizenry at large, and this night the voters spoke LOUD AND CLEAR.
As for the stock market, that is only good because the Fed has been printing money hand over foot.
Tommy6860 November 5th, 2014 at 01:33
Your GOP congress approved of that money and would have blocked any legislation to stop it. Drink some more koolaid before you come to your senses.

Any of the Dem Senators with both Indy Senators are far brighter, smarter, mentally balanced and more intelligent than the entire GOP senate conspiracy of hallucinations.
