Cruz Warns That Republicans Might Pass Internet Sales Tax
Click here for reuse options!Cruz said party leadership could take up the bill in the lame-duck session, when recently-defeated Democrats would be able to support the bill.
“There are some voices in Washington who want a lame duck precisely so they can engage in corporate welfare and blame it on the Democrats,” Cruz told National Review Online. “One of my greatest concerns during a lame duck is that we could see leaders in both parties pushing through a nationwide internet sales tax. That is one of the favorite causes of the corporate lobbyists on K Street, to jack up taxes on millions of mom-and-pop internet retailers. Now, that helps all the big businesses at the expense of the little guy.”

Truly, WTF??!! Does this moron get that he is a junior Senator with no committee chairmanships and only a pocket veto for power?

he might be trying for Mitch`s spot minority leader.

I doubt it. Then, he would have the responsibility of leading, something he seems to avoid in favor of spewing his special brand of stupidity.

Forgive my ignorance but exactly what hardship would this place on Mom & Pop retailers? Aren’t they already required to collect sales tax from customers that reside in their state? (with the 5 exceptions) How does this create corporate welfare? I enjoy a discount as much as the next guy, but taxes serve a purpose for the general good. So what am I missing?

You’re missing the GOP mind control chip.

They would also have to collect sales tax from (internet) customers in those 45 states and then remit those taxes to 45 different tax agencies – a hell of a lot of paperwork for a small business…
Carla Akins November 14th, 2014 at 18:50
I see brick and mortar stores that also have and online store struggling some, but they already have the infrastructure to take orders and collect payment it’s not a huge or even costly leap to collect and pass on the tax collected to more than their specific state. Hell, even Etsy collects sales tax.
