Florida Man Shoots Ex-Girlfriend After Mistaking Her For An Intruder
A Florida man says he accidentally shot his ex-girlfriend after she broke into his house to collect her things following a break-up.
According to the Daily News, T.J. Schaus, a U.S. military Veteran, said he mistook his ex, who had recently moved out of his Mount Dora home, for a burglar when he opened fire on Thursday.
“If I knew it was her I would have never grabbed the pistol,” he said.
The couple dated for about two a half years before they broke up and she moved out.
Before the unidentified woman returned on Thursday to pick up her things, she texted Schaus to tell him she would be there soon. But, he said he was sleeping and never got the message.
When she tried to open the locked door at around 12:30 p.m. he was still napping, he said.
She then began to beat down the door in order to get inside, he said.
When she went into his bedroom, Schaus woke up.
“I rolled out of bed, grabbed my pistol that was on my night stand, said, ‘Who the f— is in my house?'” he said.. “Didn’t get a reply so I shot her.”
When she screamed after being shot, he said he realized who it was.
He said he immediately rushed to her side to help.
“She was like, ‘I’m going to die. I’m going to die.’ I’m like, ‘You’re not going to die. Lay down, be still and breathe,'” Schaus said.
The woman was airlifted to a local hospital and underwent surgery. On Friday morning, she was listed in stable condition and spoke to authorities, Lake County Sgt. Jim Vachon said.
“I’m upset it happened. I never in 10 million years thought I’d have to shoot somebody else,” Schaus said.

Personally, I think she made a mistake in not waking him up, give him a shake or tell him she’s here to get her stuff….Just walking in the bedroom and not saying anything, probably trying to be quiet to not wake him, scared the crap out of him…
He made a mistake by shooting before his eyes were open…
In any event, untrained hands on lethal weapons cause all kinds of death and injury, and this is another example.

First off, I’m about as far from a gun fan as one could get. He didn’t make ANY mistakes and this is what gun ownership should be about. Did you miss the shoe prints on the door where she busted the door open to get in? If you were dead asleep, wouldn’t you think it’s an intruder also? I sure would. He called out, she didn’t answer. That’s her second mistake.
And he’s a war veteran. Did you miss that too? I would hardly call him “untrained hands”. heck, he hit her in the dark. Sounds like a pretty decent shot to me. She’s lucky she’s not dead.

war veteran…why did he say he “never thought he would shoot somebody else?”
Foundryman November 1st, 2014 at 17:52
Last I looked veterans are trained to fight in war zones. This, or really any incident in civil society hardly qualifies as a war zone. That’s why the police have their own training, even veterans who want to be police.

She sounds like a real smart ass. she had to know he sleeps with a gun. I hope she is charged with breaking and entering. This guy is way better off with this girl gone. stop and think about what she did to his house. if this had been a woman shooting a man for kicking her door down, they would be trying to give her a medal. i think he needed a gun if he was living with her. She kicked his fucking door open ! she is a bully duh…..

Anyone else notice the camouflaged nicotine vaporizer the shooter is grasping?
Damn good thing he is white, or that might be mistaken for a weapon..
And whats the point of the camouflage? Does he think we wont see it?

nah, not this time. this is simply another case of a violence prone person who has no business owning a firearm.
why would you have a gun if you thought, in 10 million years, that you’d never have to shoot someone with it?

““I’m upset it happened. I never in 10 million years thought I’d have to shoot somebody else,” Schaus said.” Then why have the gun in your house, you dumbass!

So many men shoot their girlfriends, wives and ex-significant others…has to be an innocent error, every time, right?

Violence against women.

“I never in 10 million years thought I’d have to shoot somebody else,” doesn’t pass the smell test coming from a gun owner and former military man.

I don’t understand why people are so fearful they have to shoot an unidentified person in their home. It happened to me. I talked to the guy and found out he was drunk. There was no need for violence but I was trained in hand to hand combat and felt confident I could handle it if it came to that. This guy used to be a soldier right?

The logical result of a stand-your-ground law + a gunslinger attitude + I’m looking for an excuse to off my ex. The good news is that the shooter gets 15 minutes of fame in paradise.
