To Delay His Prison Term, Man Instructs Son To Shoot Him
In order to delay his prison term, a man instructed his son to shoot him and he did. The former Bend developer in Oregon was to begin his 10-year-sentence this summer in connection with a mortgage fraud scheme. But now, Shannon Egeland, 40, has been arrested again.
A former Bend developer who was to start a 10-year prison sentence this summer in connection with a Central Oregon mortgage fraud scheme has been arrested after his son allegedly confessed he shot his father to delay his prison term.
The Oregonian reports authorities arrested Shannon Egeland on Thursday in Idaho after the son confessed Egeland asked him to shoot him in the legs in July, a day before he was to report to prison.
Egeland, 40, told authorities he was shot by a motorist he’d pulled over to assist.
Egeland was vice president of the Desert Sun Development company, which orchestrated tens of millions of dollars in mortgage fraud between 2004 and 2008.
Egeland pleaded guilty to fraud charges; he was one of 12 indicted in the scandal.
According to The Oregonian, Rylan Egeland, 18, reportedly told Canyon County Sheriff’s Office investigators that he shot his father in the lower legs with a borrowed shotgun on his father’s orders.
Egeland suffered serious injuries from the gunshot wound. He broke a bone in one of his legs and doctors later amputated one of his feet.
But according court documents, prosecutors believe Shannon Egeland bought a “dismemberment” insurance policy a week before the shooting.
“We were told yesterday that Rylan confessed,” Lisa Briggs, whose daughter is Shannon Egeland’s significant other, said. “I don’t know any details. I just know that it makes me sick to my stomach.”
The shooting was part of a sweeping white-collar fraud case in Central Oregon in 2008 and ended in a bizarre twist with Egeland, bleeding and badly wounded, on a country road.
There is no mention of charges against his son. Although he’s 18-years-old now, he was 17 when the shooting took place.

I see Shannon Egeland as being a very selfish individual and a poor parent because his scheme has landed his son in hot water. In most cases, parents do everything they can to keep their kids out of trouble/jail, but I guess when Shannon Egeland cooked up his little prison-avoidance scheme, he was only concerned about himself. If he thought serving time behind bars with two good legs was a b*tch, I can imagine what it’ll be like for him having to cope with prison life while having one functioning leg and the other with an amputated foot.

He is a good looking kid, (gets the looks from his mom)..
And he loves music, (like his dad) “pops” is what he calls me..

I’m worried about the “Future Generation”… holding the torch for what? The list of things in need of repair is staggering, and so is the “money” that keeps it that way… Too many of them simply don’t know anything about politics (or worse don’t care) Perhaps they would if they had a REAL “Civics class” in school and actually went on field trips as an “activist”… Give them extra credit for just signing up to vote if they are eligible to when it’s time to vote. I think a lot of our young don’t really get much into politics because they’re pretty smart and know BS when they hear it AND many probably don’t feel like it will matter… show them examples of what the Tea Party does, along with all of the other obstructionist republicans as well… Teach them about the Oligarchy etc. etc. In other words tell them the G*d Damned truth!!

My mom used to go around shooting at people and zapping people with a Taser, slapping people with a wasp, it was a leather club with lead weights sewn into the head, breaking out windows, conning people into doing stuff that was not strictly legal, all sorts of crazy stuff but you couldn’t even pay a cop to come get her!
One time she told me to go open the door for the carpet layers but she failed to mention that there were still renters in the house and I almost got arrested!! I have never had so much as a speeding ticket but that cop was Jonesing to lock me up.
She was not mentally ill, she was just a B! but for some reason she got away with some outrageous stuff.
I would have been one of those people who would not have minded much but I would not have done…I would have considered it though!
