Man Robbed With His Own Handgun

A Washington man was robbed by an acquaintance with his own gun while trying to sell it to a friend of the acquaintance earlier this month in Mukilteo, according to police.

Police say the victim took a ferry to Mukilteo with a 21-year-old acquaintance, who happens to be a convicted felon, in order to sell a Sig Sauer handgun to a friend of the acquaintance.

You see where this is going, right?

KOMO News reports that the victim and acquaintance met the buyer, a 23-year-old, in a parking lot near the ferry, and the buyer agreed to purchase the gun for $1,000, according to police.

The three men reportedly decided to go to the buyer’s apartment so the victim could show him how to clean and reassemble the gun before he purchased it.

That’s when things went from bad to worse. On the way to the apartment, the acquaintance put a live round into the gun’s chamber and pointed it at the victim’s head.

The acquaintance then reportedly asked the victim, “How does it feel to get robbed with your own gun?”

So the robber-acquaintance then took the victim’s cellphone before telling him to get out of the car. He then warned him not to call the police.

The victim disregarded the acquaintance’s advice and the police used Facebook to identify the buyer.

Police say that a photo on the buyer’s Facebook page appeared to show him posing with the victim’s stolen gun. Other photos of the man posing with various guns were also featured on his page, according to KIROTV.

Deputies found the suspects in the buyer’s car and they were arrested and booked into jail for investigation of robbery. The vehicle was impounded.

Background checks on personal firearm sales should be a thing.

So where was the prototypical Rambo in this situation? Didn’t the NRA promise that if we put a gun in every person’s hands that they’d be safe?

But you see how well that works when you hand the thief your gun and show him how it works.

SIGH ! Friend or not. Never turn over a loaded hand gun, shot gun or rifle to someone who intends to buy it.

Sorta like letting a complete stranger “test drive” the car you’re trying to sell.
      Alone.

Maybe in addition to background checks there should be a sanity affidavit for every gun purchase.
