Watch: Rep. Marsha Blackburn Wants Africa’s Borders In Texas Closed
Rep. Marsha Blackburn is as good at geography as she is science. While a House panel sharply questioned health officials Thursday over the U.S. response to the Ebola virus, the Tennessee Congresswoman managed to get America’s borders mixed up with African borders. In fairness, both regions in the world begin with an A, so it must have confused the poor thing.
Blackburn pounced at the mention of “borders.” She took Frieden’s “porous borders” remark which was referring to the borders between three African countries and confused it with America’s Southern borders.

She probably thinks Benghazi is in Lebanon. Oh, those tricky alphabet thingies.

I suppose it may be expecting to much to ask these politicians and their media spokespeople to think things through, keep this perspective and act like mature adults. I really think their purpose is to cause a panic and get all people to act in an unnecassary manner that will crash the economy and cause extreme hardship without a widespread epidemic spreading in this country…..just so they can win an election. It really is truly immoral.
Now, it no way am I saying this is not a serious virus and infection controls need to be headed and for many people learned and practiced. Yet, no one in Ducan’s family, living with him or otherwise contracted Ebola. It has been those caring directly for Ducan’s in an advanced case of Ebola. Health care workers can make errors in their field, just like anyone else. We are in a learning curve just like we did with HIV. Yet, we have had cases of Lassa Fever come here from overseas and it was treated and contained successfully.
I have been shocked to read comment by some people on Facebook posts regarding Ebola. Most are misinform d even saying the Goverment is spraying it on us when they hear it may be airborn! Wow! M. Blackburn is a part of that Government she is helping to spread fear about! You don’t think theses politicians don’t know the crazy stuff and fear being posted on facebook or tweeted?
I think it is most alarming the way so many people treat others unlucky enough to have contracted contagious disease and most likely those people were caring for someone very ill! Maybe that is human nature but we should be in a learning curve with that too…and hopefully moving upward in that kind of behavior!

I have read FB posts where some people are suggesting we isolate, stop shopping at Malls or going to other public places like sporting events, community gatherings, shop only via the Internet ect. I think these politicians like Blackburn are simply feeding that fear and panic.
In the early 80’s, I found myself a divorced mother with two young children. I had a group of friends and we supported one another through life’s difficulties and celebrated the good times together. One of those friends was a man who was a Hemophiliac who contracted HIV through a blood transfusions in the early days of this disease before much was know. Now this man was one of the kindest men I have ever known. One day, after a group gathering, at my home in the country, I looked out the window and saw Frank mowing my lawn. I did not have a lawn mower. Now mind you, Frank could not walk without walking assists because he also had crippled legs. When I moved to that country home, because the rent was cheap, the only two people who showed up to help me move were two crippled men….Frank and another man with one arm and a genetic heart disease. Both men died within a decade. Frank first. We lost two of the kindest strongest men I have ever known.
The reason I tell this is when Frank Contracted HIV little was known about how it spread and there was panic and misinformation spread. I fell into it and I still cry today in how I treated Frank when he became ill. His disease changed our friendship and I became distant because if fear and paranoia. I still cry when I think about it and what we know today. Frank knew me well enough to know I was pushing pass my fears to see him in the last days of his life. Believe me….no one wants to live with the shame I still carry!
We do need to take Ebola and other deadly diseases seriously and practice infection control personally in our everyday lives but we need accurate and informed information….not crazy, panicky, out of perspective, irrational solutions! Please….we need ALL our media and politicians to be moral and level headed! I am not seeing that right now from some!

Jesus Christ on a trailer hitch…They truly don’t get any dumber than this.
It’s amazing that any witness in front of a Congressional hearing can make it through the day without uttering the term “WTF is wrong with you?”
Newzheimer October 17th, 2014 at 17:18
Louie Gohmert is, indeed, dumber than this. According to him, Ebola is the result of the Democratic War on Women Nurses.
You can’t make this stuff up.

I can’t watch it. This much ignorance in a public office is just too damn much to take.

Come on! Whoever wrote this article knows full well that she didn’t say that the U.S. had any common borders with any African countries. Although it’s very likely an unfounded fear, what she was asking was that IF they (anyone who is infected) were to approach the U.S. via Canada or Mexico, would it be prudent to secure the borders (which is a bit of a loaded question in itself). I’m sure we all have enough of a grasp of the English language to know what she actually meant. The intentional, partisan word-twisting, and inclusion of words that WEREN’T spoken at all, in this article is the same type of crap that I’m used to from Republicans. Is it really necessary to stoop to their level? I’d like to think that we’re better than that.
