Two Pennsylvania Lawmakers Involved In Shoot-Out With Robbers Near Capitol
A Pennsylvania state legislator exchanged gunfire with a would-be robber near the state Capitol in Harrisburg, city police said Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.
Reps. Marty Flynn (D-Scranton) and Ryan Bizzarro (D-Erie) were approached by two gunmen with bandanas covering their faces about 11:00 p.m. near the state capital of Harrisburg, Capitolwire reported.
Flynn, a former Lackawanna County prison guard, is licensed to carry a handgun. He drew his pistol and fired during the attempted holdup.
At least one of the two would-be robbers was armed, police said, but no one was injured.
It remained unclear who fired first and how many shots were fired, but the two crooks held them at gunpoint from a few feet away and a third suspect watched from a vehicle, according to the Daily News.
Harrisburg police reportedly arrested four juveniles between the ages of 15 and 17 who are being prosecuted as adults, and authorities said they recovered the gun used in the crime.
Bill Patton, a spokesman for the House Democrats said in a statement that after the exchange of gunfire, the attackers and victims ran in different directions.
Flynn and Bizzarro returned to the residence about four blocks from the Capitol that they share when the Legislature is in session. They called 911 and Flynn turned over his weapon to police, according to the statement.
“We are used to fighting for the people in our districts every day,” Flynn said in the statement. “We certainly are going to stand up for ourselves and not become victims.”
Police will hold a news conference later Wednesday.
Flynn and Bizzarro were walking to midtown after escorting two female representatives back to the Capitol following dinner before the incident occurred.

from a few feet away and still couldn’t hit the robbers ?
time for both sides to turn in your guns and call it a mistake

You see, we Democrats do own guns. We just don’t make a point of having to make sure that everybody knows it.

Woah, What was that? A good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with a gun? IMPOSSIBLE!
arc99 October 15th, 2014 at 18:59
not impossible at all, and I sure never said it was.
what I have said is that more guns do not make us safer.
more guns make it more likely that some otherwise “good guy” with a gun might kill or injure someone accidentally.

And it was concealed, the democrat wasn’t using it like a penis extension, go figure, it’s like democrats are evolved or something.

technically they stopped a couple of teenagers.
Red Eye Robot October 16th, 2014 at 12:52
So they were harmless because they were teenagers?
“Charged were Jamani Ellison, 17; Jyair Leonard, 15; Derek Anderson, 17; and Zha-quan McGhee, 15, whom police identified as the shooter. He was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and carrying a firearm without a license. The other suspects face charges of conspiracy and robbery. They will be prosecuted as adults, police said.”

This is the problem I have with just anyone carrying a gun , shots but doesn’t hit what they are wanting to hit , people think they will not panic but end up panicing , lucky no innocent people were hit .
Spirit of America October 15th, 2014 at 18:58
Actually, I’m thinking of when he was a prison guard… escaping inmates, running/dodging from more than a few feet away…. odds of stopping that escape?
:)
mea_mark October 15th, 2014 at 20:28
How sure are you he wanted to hit anything? My first shot would be to cause panic while I carefully aimed for a kill shot if I didn’t get the desired results. That’s just me though.
