Video: Alison Lundergan Grimes Voting For Barack Obama In 2012

Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes (D-Ky.) has reignited criticism by once again refusing to say whether she voted for President Obama in 2012, but the obvious answer is yes, and we’ve got the video to prove it. Grimes set the political media on fire last week when she refused to say whether she had voted for President Obama in 2008 or 2012, even drawing a fatal rebuke from Meet The Press moderator Chuck Todd:

Thanks to that Morning Joe clip, Todd is now the star of a Mitch McConnell ad, which can’t sit too well with Todd.

Despite Chuck’s insistence that Grimes had “disqualified herself,” the candidate had two fairly strong rationales for refusing to answer. The strongest, by far, was Grimes’ insistence that Barack Obama is “not on the ballot,” a point she probably should have stuck with. Obama supporters are rightly offended by the Democratic cold shoulder their president is getting from Democrats, but in a 90% white state where Obama only received 58% of the votes in an uncontested Democratic primary, the choice is step away from Obama, or step off. Grimes may need to do a dance for Kentucky voters, but as a Senator, she’ll be a vote in favor of important issues that other Democrats avoid, like voting rights.

Grimes also cited the “sanctity of the ballot box,” which actually is a real thing. Just ask Chuck Todd, who would sooner give up sunscreen than reveal who he voted for in any election. Not everyone is like that. There are many reporters who’ve told me how they cast their votes, but Chuck ain’t one of them. We all have friends and family members who hold that information close, even if the answer is obvious.

At last night’s debate, Grimes elected to go with the latter, weaker rationale when asked again:

“I’m not going to compromise a constitutional right provided here in Kentucky in order to curry favor on one or other side or members of the media. I’ll protect that right for every Kentuckian.”

That answer might appeal to Kentuckians who really don’t want to get into fights at Thanksgiving dinner, but no one else. Grimes is now being compared with Peter, the biblical disciple who denied Christ three times, but to be fair, Jesus never managed to pass universal health care. On the other hand, Peter wasn’t facing a 30-year incumbent

Grimes’ refusal to answer has become a major distraction, even though the answer to the question is not only painfully obvious, but verifiable by video evidence…READ MORE

Mitch McConnell’s 15% truth rating via right leaning PolitiFact proves why most KY voters want to #DitchMitch. http://www.politifact.com/personalities/mitch-mcconnell/

Tim Russert must spin in his grave when lightweights David Gregory and Chuck Todd make fools of themselves on MTP. Those two clowns claim to be liberals, but are in reality shills for the right. Sad.

I watched that debate last night (this is where I live) and her performance was mediocre at best. She spent most of her time just attacking and repeating what she has stated over her campaign regarding policies, that being vague. She should have jsut come out and said she voted for him, it made me wince. Now, I just read that the DSCC is pulling out funding her race there. She’s pretty much lost the race. Mitch was worse, but it didn’t matter because she didn’t overcome his retorts by saying very much.

Your comment makes it more likely that Mitch wins. I watched the same debate, and she was far from mediocre. She gave more specifics than Mitch did, all Mitch did was ramble on and on about Obama.

BTW, why should she have said she voted for him? To give Mitch more ammo to use against her? You’re the very reason this right wing narrative continues to stay alive. Instead of focusing on how horribly bad Mitch is, you instead waste time attacking ALG, which in turn, helps Mitch win.

In short, thanks for helping the Republicans secure another seat that the Democrats should win. You’re the Democrats’ worst enemy.

It’s the perception she gave. Mitch had no qualms stating who he voted for (no, I am not praising him for that, rather just pointing that out), but couldn’t she since she is an obvious democrat? Would it be shame to say so? I think that hurt her. And no, most of her time was attacking Mitch’s tenure which is fine, but what she expounded on is what she has campaigned on and she didn’t give much in detail. If you call stating over and over again how bad Mitch is money connected while saying I’ll save SS and Medicare and preserve coals jobs, then she is not going to go far. Anyone can watch this if they want and will see the same thing. I wasn’t surprised the DSCC pulled out the money.

I can now only hope she will win but it doesn’t look good. She should have also stated what she would improve on with the ACA, she didn’t do that.

It’s a dumb question, but she should have answered it.

It’s a dumb question, but she should have answered it. Not doing so makes her look bad.

Could have turned it around to her favor…something like “As long as we’re being juveniles, show me yours first before I show you mine.”

ps…this is what the media’s reduced to these days? Asking the obvious? Lord help us, cause the Fourth Estate certainly ain’t.

Silly non-issue, yet MESSNBC and the professional left plays it up as one. This is why I don’t follow MSNBC anymore, they’re becoming CNN lite which is Fox lite. None of the networks does any actual journalism anymore.

I’m so tired of the Democrats not fighting back. Cons, nut jobs and toxic news put their hateful spin on everything and there is no rebuttal. Democrats running for office are denying our POTUS and that stinks. There’s so much he and Dems have accomplished against the worst obstruction and disrespect ever, and no one has his back. It’s way past time to drag out the soap boxes of old and let people know the truth.
