Republican Official: I Meant No ‘Ill Intent’ When Calling For A Military Coup Against ‘Domestic Enemy’ Obama

Posted by | October 14, 2014 17:30 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

A Republican Missouri official explains that she used a poor choice of words in a post on her personal Facebook page in which she called for a military coup. How does one accidentally call for a military coup? According to Jefferson County Recorder of Deeds Debbie Dunnegan, she meant “no ill intent” when she referred to President Obama as a “domestic enemy.”

Dunnegan’s post read:

“I have a question for all my friends who have served or are currently serving in our military … having not put on a uniform nor taken any type military oath, there has to be something that I am just not aware of. But I cannot and do not understand why no action is being taken against our domestic enemy. I know he is supposedly the commander in chief, but the constitution gives you the authority. What am I missing? Thank you for your bravery and may God keep you safe.”

(my bold)

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the group Progress Missouri posted Dunnegan’s Facebook status on its website on Friday under the headline “JeffCo Recorder Asks Why Military Hasn’t Ousted Obama Yet,” saying that “Jefferson County voters deserve better.”

Dunnegan explains that she simply wanted to know what oath the military took to protect the country from enemies both foreign and domestic. It seems she had forgotten that she specifically referred to the ‘Commander in Chief.”

“I meant no ill intent toward the president. I meant no ill intent toward anybody,” she said.

“Something innocent and simple got twisted into a disaster because it’s an election,” Dunnegan said.

Oh yes, military coups and the assassination of our president is “something innocent.”

She said she’s received good and bad responses to the post.

As for how it could affect her chances for re-election, the paper reports that Dunnegan said, “I think it could hurt it as much as it could help it.”

Waters said she is stunned that her Facebook comments have generated a controversy. “I should have known better than to use certain phrases,’’ she said. “Maybe my choice of words was bad.”

I love how these red meat throwing Republicans use such strong language then walk it back while playing victim. I hope her hair falls out and she goes broke, ends up destitute and panhandling for money while scrounging through dumpsters for food in the worst of neighborhoods, without shelter. Perhaps then, she can reflect back to that time when she could have made a difference in this world, even a small one, but something meaningful. I meant no “ill intent” by that, just so we’re clear. I just wrote something “innocent” which I’m sure will be “twisted” because of upcoming elections.

    Supposedly the commander-in-chief?

332 Electoral College votes say that he is most definitely the commander-in-chief.

So take your lame apology and shove it. This is the United States of America. We select our leadership via elections, not by military coup. If that system of government does not satisfy your needs, then you are always welcome to get the f*ck out of MY country.

Let me repeat it. Get out of my country you filthy right wing traitors.

They used to say that to Catholics.
They used to say it to Quakers, too, and socialists.

I’m guessing your role model in all of this is Senator Joseph McCarthy.

Catholics were not traitors. Quakers were not traitors. I don’t even know if there actually were any socialists. You are basing your argument on a false premise. Shame on you.

I am basing my argument on history.
Catholics were seen as traitors, and when they landed in Maryland it was open season on them. It was called “The Burning Time.” They were seen as a threat because of their loyalties. Catholic priests were hunted on the frontier like game.
Quakers, likewise were indeed considered traitors when they refused to join in war against Indians they were at peace with. For their trouble they were invaded, beaten, had their homes invaded and more because they harbored Indians others wanted to kill. Not positive, but I think the early Quakers were also against oaths, which by definition of the times made them traitors (I may be thinking of Mennonites, sometimes I get some of these groups confused).
Socialists and others who attempted to organize labor were likewise mistreated horribly (I did not intend to imply these things all took place at the same time). Later on, when McCarthyism got in full swing, many socialists had to leave the country to work and others were driven out.

Shame on you for not knowing your history.

To add to my post, above, in colonial times the power struggles in Europe were played out here. So, for example, those who supported Cromwell viewed supporters of Charles II as traitors.

When the king was a Catholic, Protestants were viewed as traitors and vice versa.

This is how a lot of the colonists got here. There would be a change from, say, James II to William III and they would round up their political opponents, throw them in jail, and then to make room when the jails were full, they’d ship them over here.

regressive right-wingers deserve no quarter–they are desperately wrong, in most everything…we do not have to favor stupidity–it deserves little, if any, protection…

you do understand, that these people are actively trying to destroy our government, and the advances our society has made in the last 75 years…

          • burqa October 15th, 2014 at 05:21

I agree with you in terms of politics.
I disagree with you on treating people unequally and denying rights to those with whom we disagree.
I do not think all these people spouting extreme rhetoric are “actively trying to destroy our government.” I think a lot of the time they are just not thinking or are trying to play to the crowd.

When you say our political opponents “deserves little, if any protection” it sounds as if you favor “actively trying to destroy our government.”

When fire is the problem, we should not fight it with more fire. All that does is makes the problem bigger. We should fight fire with water.
We should also reject calls to do away with the protections and rights that were so costly to achieve for all Americans, regardless of race, sex or political beliefs. Americans paid a steep price to achieve and protect those rights and we should not be so quick to throw them away when we see someone else also trying to throw them away because then we’ll have nothing left.

Catholics were seen as traitors. When they landed in Maryland it was open season on them. It was called “The Burning Time.” They were seen as a threat because of their loyalties. Catholic priests were hunted on the frontier like game. Expeditions from Virginia invaded Maryland, burned their homes and stole their livestock and any other property they could carry off.
Quakers, likewise were indeed considered traitors when they refused to join in war against Indians they were at peace with. For their trouble they were invaded, beaten, had their homes invaded and more because they harbored Indians others wanted to kill. Shame on you for not knowing your history.
In time you’ll find I’m pretty well informed on history.

When they arrived, they found the same sort of discrimination. For example, if a Puritan from New England made the mistake of stepping ashore from a merchant ship calling on Jamestown, the Puritan ran the risk of being thrown in jail.

This sh*t is going waaaaaaay too far. How long before some idiot acts on the words of all these idiots?

“Oh, but that’s not what I meant,” they’ll protest, and the R.W. media will defend them while the so-called “liberal” media will say nothing.

I never stood for this kind of crap under any Republican president…and I never will if God forbid another ever gets in the White House.

I’d say shame on them, but they have no concept of that term.
