NRA Radio Show Guest: ‘Shrill’ Moms Demand Action Leader Emasculates Her Husband
In the NRA world, if a woman has an opinion, she’s “shrill” and emasculates her husband for having the audacity to form her own thoughts without any help from the menfolk in her life.
NRA News host Cam Edwards went there by allowing a sexist guest to attack Shannon Watts of Moms Demand Action. Attacking women is a common tactic of theirs.
On the NRA’s radio show Cam & Company, guest and conservative columnist Kurt Schlichter said (out loud) that Watts, who founded gun safety group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, has stripped her husband “of the most basic and threshold abilities of a man; that is to defend his self, his family and his community, by being married to this shrill harridan.”
Media Matters reports:
Schlichter was unfavorably comparing Watts to actress Annette Bening’s American Beauty character Carolyn Burnham, provoking Edwards’ laughter.
KURT SCHLICHTER: Oh my gosh, I got to tell you something. I got to tell you something. I finally figured out who Shannon Watts of Moms Demand Action reminds me of.
EDWARDS: Oh?
SCHLICHTER: Annette Bening in American Beauty.
EDWARDS: Wow.
SCHLICHTER: Yeah. Huh? Huh? Yeah.
EDWARDS: Boy, now I am going to have to go back and re-watch — I don’t think I’ve that movie since it came out.
SCHLICHTER: Oh yeah.
EDWARDS: But yeah, okay, okay.
SCHLICHTER: Yeah, yeah, and her husband has got to be named Lester.
EDWARDS: [Laughter] That’s awful.
SCHLICHTER: Stripped of the most basic and threshold abilities of a man; that is to defend his self, his family and his community, by being married to this shrill harridan. She is Annette Bening in American Beauty.

Definition of harridan: An angry and unpleasant woman Synonyms: battle-ax (or battle-axe), dragon lady, fury, harpy, shrew, termagant, virago, vixen.
The NRA targeted Watts previously in a sexist article about the gun sense activist in its magazine using a graphic that depicted her as a 1950s housewife:
Because that’s how the NRA sees women.
Ms. Watts, 42, has 5 children: two step-daughters, 23 and 19; two daughters, 17 and 16; and a 12-year-old son. She is, despite the NRA’s claims, obviously happily married and the mother of a somewhat large family. Also, too, she has opinions which her husband does not try to stifle.

The emasculated member of their family was their then-12-year-old son, who — as Mom’s been telling all and sundry — had a panic attack at the movies after the Aurora shooting, and apparently has been living in fear ever since.
