Florida Man Allegedly Shoots Woman In The Head For ‘Jokingly’ Slapping Him

A Florida man was arrested early Saturday on manslaughter charges after he allegedly shot a woman to death for jokingly slapping him across the face. 26-year-old Elliott William Orsborn had been drinking in his garage with several friends, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses told police that they had been hanging out in the garage throughout the night while Martin’s two children were asleep in the house, according to The Florida Times-Union.

Orsborn kept playing with his silver .22 revolver with electrical tape wrapped around the handle but it was not loaded.

The group of friends drank more, and while Jamie Lee Martin, 26, and Orsborn were sitting at a table talking, Martin said something Orsborn didn’t like.

According to witnesses, Gavin Lamberth, Martin’s boyfriend of about 5 months who lives with her and her children, told Orsborn to “just chill.”

She then, “jokingly slapped the defendant across the face,” according to police.

Witnesses told police that Orsborn pulled his gun out of his shorts pocket, pointed it at Martin’s forehead and shot her, the Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the paper, Orsborn told witnesses immediately that he didn’t mean to shoot Martin, and Martin’s boyfriend and friend started “freaking out.” He stuck around for a few minutes and tried to help Martin before leaving the house.

When Orsborn was arrested at his home, he told authorities he didn’t wish to speak until talking with an attorney.

He was taken into custody and is scheduled for court on Sunday.

In 2011, Orsborn was convicted of aggravated assault after pulling a knife on a courtesy officer at an Orange Park motel. According to what he told officers at the time, he admitted to having six or seven shots of alcohol before that incident.
