Guess Where Republican Ad Got Its Photo Of Gay Republican

As part of our ongoing exposé of the “Republicans Are People Too” ad’s comical use of photos featuring people who aren’t actually identifiable as Republicans, we came across a very interesting source for the ad’s gay Republicans, and if you guess “stock photo,” you’d be wrong.

On Tuesday, we highlighted the ad’s “Republicans Are Black” slide because while the rest of the ad features people of all other races, there’s only one black person in the whole clip, which is further confirmation of their already-stated policy of doing absolutely nothing to attract black voters. I’m not making that up, it’s in their own “autopsy report,” which outlines policy changes to attract every other group they’re sucking with, but only “educating” black people about how awesome Republicans already are for them if they’d only smarten up and realize it. Seriously, read the thing:

Engage historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) with the goal of educating the community on Republican ideals and the Party’s history.

Perhaps my favorite bullet point for black voters, though, is this one:

The RNC should work with the RSLC to develop best practices of Republicans who were successfully elected in districts with a high population of African American voters.

Yeah, like that awesome Shelby County “best practice.”

That’s why it was so much more comical that they used a stock photo for their “Republicans are black” slide, but as others have pointed out, the fact that they used stock photos at all (for pretty much all of the groups mentioned in the ad), in an ad that’s all about how really real and human Republicans are, is itself comical.

These clearly explained nuances didn’t stop some conservatives from running their “Liberals Are The RE AL Racits™” protocol, but one of them accidentally made a really good point. Chad Felix Greene, who writes for American Thinker, decided to accuse me of being a bigot. I must apologize here for calling American Thinker a “racist rag” on Twitter, because that’s really unfair to racist rags that at least try (we good, Daily Caller?).

Specifically, he accused me of homophobia because, in reply to his assumption that I view gay Republicans as a joke. I said “No, I’m proud of both of you.” It was an obvious rejoinder, but little did Chad know how much funnier that punchline actually gets when you watch the ad he was defending. Can you guess where they got their photo for the “Republicans Are Gay” slide? Here’s the ad, see if you can figure it out:

That’s right, folks, they got it from Nowhere. According to that ad, Republicans are:

  • Prius Drivers
  • Recyclers
  • Spotifiers
  • Ikea-philes
  • White
  • Black
  • Hispanic
  • Asian
  • NYT Readers – in public!
  • Mac users
  • Grandmas-daughters-moms
  • Left-handed
  • Doctors
  • Welders
  • Teachers
  • Charitable givers
  • Gourmet Home Cooks
  • Trader Joe’s shoppers
  • Dog and Cat fanciers (but mostly dogs)
  • Inked, bearded feeling-havers who care

…but none of them, not even the two my joke gave them credit for, are gay. Well, some of them probably are gay (my money’s on the beard guy, but thanks to Democrats, it could also be the army guy with the dog), but the Republican ad-maker decided to exclude that detail completely. Funnily enough, that GOP strategy document that mentioned black people with only contempt and condescension didn’t mention appealing to gay people at all. It’s only suggestion was to appeal to young voters who don’t hate gays by just not bringing up the gay hate so much.

Maybe Republicans should spend less time convincing us that they are people, and more time learning that Chad is a person, too.

I love it–keep highlighting it. My favorite part is how they think that we are stupid enough to fall for it.

The GOPers are. Problem is the’re not reaching out to anybody new to join their ranks. They are just deceiving their base that they are eclectic and inclusive.

they think they are doing outreach and have embarrassingly bad strategy documents to prove it. They don’t get that the packaging isn’t the problem, it’s what’s in the box.

We’re not stupid. However, The Republican and Tea Party? That’s another matter entirely.

Ruin their 2 dimensional image on paper. Why in the world would they want to do that?

I’m picking the “gourmet” slide! Well, no, my pic is for none of them. But, it’s still much easier to make ads than it is to remake an entire political party.

I bet very few of the people depicted are actually Republicans. These are attractive, intelligent-looking people, they don’t look like nasty shrivelled-up vicious haters.

People with feelings? Really? People who care? Whatever. How about realistic slides like,.”Republicans are gullible slaves of the Koch brothers”. “Republicans are sick bloodthirsty warmongering psychopaths.” “Republicans are ignorant racist, sexist, and homophobic bigots.”

Mark Sanford is a Republican. Why didn’t they show Mark from behind in his boxers walking towards a woman’s open legs with:
    ‘Married Republicans are tail hikers’
That would have been a good commercial to air
    and funnie too!
