14-Year-Old Girl Shoots Self And Her Dad While Learning To Use Handgun

A 14-year-old Ohio girl accidentally shot herself and her father while learning to use a handgun on Tuesday night.  The father and daughter were on the back deck of their home when the shooting occurred.

Police said the teenager suffered a gunshot to her upper leg and was transported to a local children’s hospital.

According to the Dayton Daily News, her 42-year-old father suffered only a superficial wound to his leg and he was transported to a hospital for treatment.

According to Vandalia Sgt. Gary Jackson, the father was showing his daughter how to use a 9mm handgun at the time.

The girl fired the gun once without any problem, but the second time her finger was on the trigger it discharged a round unexpectedly,  he said.

Jackson added that it takes a lot less pressure on the trigger the second time you fire this type of firearm.

The shooting was deemed as “accidental.”

Jackson said he doesn’t anticipate any charges being filed, but he will review the case.

On the back deck of their home? I’ll bet their neighbors are tickled pink.

Well, I guess the girl learned the most important lesson about guns. Never point a loaded gun at anyone, including yourself, unless you intend to shoot them.

I feel less safe anytime I’m around any where there are people don’t personally know who are handling guns. I don’t see myself going to a gun range anytime soon.

It’s so nice when the older generation passes on their acquired wisdom to the young. Someday, this child too will have a young one of her own, and they can share our noble tradition of shooting themselves, together. Makes me tear up to think of it.

This is insanity on steroids. I am not aware of any state in the union which allows a 14 year old to legally drive a car on public thoroughfares.

What the hell are these people thinking?

You’re too young to drink. You are too young to drive. You are too young to vote.

But here’s a gun, now go out and play.
