Racist Meme Goes Viral
Conservatives on social media have adopted a line of defense against liberals who offer differing opinions on their posts and memes. “Its[sic] all Bush’s fault and your[sic] a racist” has become their mantra, accusing liberals of fixating on these two points alone rather than offering anything of substance that could be worthy of discussion. A cheesy cop out, for sure, but they seem to feel it to be effective, so it’s probably not going anywhere anytime soon.
It’s difficult to dispense with the social stigma conservatives have earned themselves on the racism issue when they post memes like this:
The meme was posted on a Facebook page called The Revolution whose cover photo offers the original Gadsden Snake complete with the motto “Join or Die”. To date the meme has been shared nearly 287,000 times.
The comments on the meme are definitely worth the read. Liberals have covered the thread with criticism over the bigoted nature of the meme, and they aren’t alone. Conservatives have also voiced their displeasure with this “joke”, pointing out that things like this are exactly what gives them a bad name:
There are many comments of this nature. It’s refreshing to see the moderate crowd acknowledge that you can express the opinion that you disagree with the President’s policies without attacking or even mentioning race.
One such person even tied it in with being a Christian, something liberals have asked conservatives to do for years. The response from her own side is, of course, crass and to be expected:
Of course the rational thinking of a few doesn’t negate the bigotry and ignorance of the right wing extremists. They came out in force to remind everyone the true dangers of the President:
It wouldn’t be a conservative page if there weren’t people who actually post this kind of thing. Unbelievable? Yes. Uncommon? No. There’s also the obligatory “I’m not a racist but” posts like this one:
On top of being half black the President is apparently also a radical Muslim looking to bring “his people” here. Not racist…But…
Then there’s the comment defending the meme because…Who knows why? It doesn’t matter, it’s good for a chuckle:
What’s worse than 280,000 people sharing this hatred are the hundreds of posts from people who don’t understand that this is more than a joke. Racial divides, no matter how small they may seem to an individual, are one of the catalysts keeping our country divided. The bulk of the comments defending this meme have been to the tune of “It’s not racist, it’s a statement of fact. Obama is half black and half white.”
It may be a statement of fact, but in this context it’s a low blow and unnecessary. The page in question declined to comment on the inspiration for the meme, not that it’s really in question.

We are not supposed to judge all conservatives by the actions of one or two.
I would submit that when the total reaches over a quarter million, judging all conservatives by the behavior of that large sample is entirely appropriate.

I agree, arc99, and the reason I do is because the alleged moderate republicans have sat on their asses and haven’t done one thing to purge their party of these racists. If one knows others are doing something wrong and don’t say anything about it, it makes sane individuals think that they approve of that bad behavior.

Good on the few who posted against this trash. They are swimming upstream in a river of filth and I doubt that there is much hope for the conservatives cause if this is typical of their level of ignorance.
With the thought leaders at Fraud Spews leading the way by denigrating the female pilots who are on the battlefield while their lipstick warriors sit in the studio oozing stupidity every day, is it any wonder that there is no real discussion between left and right on our country’s problems.

I don’t go on my FB often but last time I did, I was inundated with the pics of Obama saluting with the coffee cup. I do not post political or religious stuff there because not everyone shares my views, but there was too much crap there for me not to address. I put up the bush hugging his dog pic and told them if this pic didn’t piss you off, then you need to figure out what your true bias’ are (not the exact words but very similar). Shocking to say this, but the reply’s were “I never seen this pic of bush before and I don’t know if it is photo shopped” and of course I got the “are you mad your obummer President is doing a terrible job? lol”. Yes it is a fact, I know some bone heads, but I still love them.

my thoughts exactly about the dog pic. i knew that even if some of them saw it, they’d go straight to the old “photo shop” excuse. i said it before, even if you have a video tape of something, they’d find a way to ignore the obvious. some people just can’t accept the truth.

bums who make their living by robbing other birds that go out and catch their own fish. Skunks never rob or kill anybody, they just eat bugs and roots and mind their own business, think Flower from Walt Disney—but at the same time, for sure nobody messes with them.
