Hundreds Of Thousands At New York Climate March

Posted by | September 21, 2014 20:13 | Filed under: Planet Politics Top Stories

Organizers didn’t over-promise when they said it would be the biggest climate march in history.

Organizers estimated that some 310,000 people, including United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, actor Leonardo DiCaprio and elected officials from the United States and abroad joined the People’s Climate March, ahead of Tuesday’s United Nations hosted summit in the city to discuss reducing carbon emissions that threaten the environment.

The New York rally, the largest single protest ever held on the topic of climate change, followed similar events in 166 countries including Britain, France, Afghanistan and Bulgaria…

Organizers said another 270,000 people had participated in related events outside New York.

The march comes days after the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported that August 2014 was the warmest on record, some 1.35 degrees Fahrenheit (0.75 C) above the 20th century global average of 60.1 F (15.6 C).

I can’t help but compare this to the 5 ammosexuals who showed up at the Mexican border to shut it down yesterday…

      A stark contrast indeed.
It should be noted to republican shills that even though they live inside a US propaganda bubble of ignorance and delusion, this protest was world wide and took place in over 160 countries.

Just imagine what we can do if we put as much of our resources and ingenuity into saving our species as we do destroying it.

“1,500 KWH/year” is 15,000 watts per year per unit. I’ll take 10! It’s a great advantage:) -Field tests, conducted in collaboration with Pusan University in South Korea, demonstrated that, given average wind speeds of 5 meters a second, the device can yield up to 1,500 kilowatt-hours a year, enough to supply about a third to half the electricity a typical home consumes. Mind you, he’s basing the estimate on the average usage of those living in the Netherlands. On average, Americans have residential footprints in the range of 11,000 kilowatt-hours.-Via WaPo. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/innovations/wp/2014/06/10/is-this-odd-looking-wind-turbine-the-most-efficient-you-can-buy/

Yeah, right. You live in a friggin city!

      • mea_mark September 22nd, 2014 at 11:37

If they could cut the price in half with mass production it would be a pretty darn good deal. It will be interesting to see if a larger model can be made that has a better cost per watt ratio also.

You got one on YOUR house? No? Just what I thought.

Uh…no it’s still in the development stage, but thanks for your response. I do however wonder if clouds sometimes look down on you and say “hey that one is shaped like an idiot”.

with over 5 million people who live in nyc I would have been more impressed if this many people show up in a town that has a far less population.
none the less more eco friendly products need to be available and affordable to every consumer

Many in NYC are attending Monday’s Battery Park Concert
#FloodWallStreet Monday Sept 22, 2014. http://www.accuracy.org/release/major-climate-march-sunday-floodwallstreet-monday/ There were 2,700 climate events in 158 countries planned to coincide with Sunday’s New York march for climate solutions.

its still somewhat expensive to convert to solar or wind energy averaging $15k to 25k per residence depending on how much power you need.
        this doesn’t include commercial buildings

        • Obewon September 21st, 2014 at 21:55

Solar prices just crashed another -50% per watt. But leasing is a popular solution for many. Thin Film Solar Cell output (in rain & on cloudy, or sunny days) just achieved 22% efficiency!

How many are you buying, or is this issue just like those illegal kids who came here from Central America where you won’t use your own money to support them?

            • tracey marie September 22nd, 2014 at 14:40

I have solar power in my home, I conserve water and capture rain water in tanks, swells and water gardens…besides run your mouth what do you do?

    • Wayout September 22nd, 2014 at 09:40

No one ever walks the walk when it comes to energy issues. When all those people move out of the cities and back to the land maybe the rest of us would listen. Those big stars who champion this issue but then live in huge mansions and fly around in private jets are the worst hypocrites.

      • fancypants September 22nd, 2014 at 09:55

I was suggesting the 400+ protesters could have been the typical crowd found in nyc on any given weekend. yea i get what your saying about the ” fly overs ” as we call them here in the Midwest.
you reap what you sew when you contribute to pollution yet all of us pay the price with the results….go figure ?

      • greenfloyd September 22nd, 2014 at 11:08

I try to walk for about an hour each day, it’s very refreshing.

Alas, you are probably right, fighting climate change is futile at the present rate of population growth. Aside from that, nature has her own agenda; earthquakes, tsunami, volcanoes, solar flares, asteroids… none of which cares a hoot about humans or our trivial concerns.

The Greedy Oil Party does nothing to expand renewable energy, but continues to do everything to stop climate progress. (R-AZ) Guber Jan Brewer’s New Republican TAX on AZ Leased solar panels! http://www.azcentral.com/story/money/business/consumer/2014/04/26/leased-solar-panels-property-taxes/8232401/ #GOPKochAddicts

    • Wayout September 22nd, 2014 at 09:38

That’s because renewable energy just cannot meet the demand for power by people like you who live in big cities.

I know I’m being negative… I’m trying real hard NOT to be. I just don’t think any REAL change will come about… unless something radical happens…
How am I supposed to feel when BP is allowed back into the Gulf of Mexico after destroying (murdering) it? If you look at the maps showing the pipelines/platforms in the gulf it’s mind boggling!… I do appreciate very much that so many people showed up in NYC to march… if I lived closer I would have joined them…. BUT.. is marching, enough to make ANY difference?….. sorry for being negative
