Jose Antonio Vargas is a Pulitzer Prize-winning writer who has been in the United States since he was 12. This summer he was detained by border patrol in McAllen, Texas and then released because he had no prior immigration or criminal record. He explained to me on radio the plight of people like him, and how you define “American.”

Immigrants from around the globe came to America over decades and built this nation to what it is today.

Every group of established immigrants hates the new guys – there has been various bouts of hatred against the Irish, Chinese, Japanese, Eastern Europeans, Germans, Italians when they originally immigrated to the US.
I wonder, after this new set of immigrants is established, who will we hate next?
