Nader To Dems: Make Minimum Wage Top Issue Or You’re ‘Doomed’
Click here for reuse options!“That’s the winning issue. They’re doomed in November unless they make the minimum wage — which gets more new workers, low-income workers out to vote — the central issue,” Nader, a consumer advocate and former minor-party presidential candidate, said during a Labor Day interview on MSNBC. “It stimulates the economy, and it’s the moral thing to do…
“If you’ve got the Republicans voting repeatedly in the House and the Senate against workers, against consumers, pro-war, pro-Wall Street, the Democrats should be landsliding them, but they’ve got to increase the urgency,” Nader said.
Democrats have “not [made] it a big enough issue,” despite polling that shows support from the public on raising the minimum wage to about $10 an hour, Nader said.
“If you campaign on the motto ‘go vote and get yourself a restored minimum wage,’ you don’t think that’s going to get people out? That’s something everybody understands. That’s the right thing to do,” Nader said.

Ralph needs to bugger off. It’s mainly because of him that we had to endure eight years of GWB which his “Both parties are the same” nonsense.

I actually voted for him over Gore and I voted for him in “96” as well. Honestly, while I deplore the GOP and have for almost 20 years now, I don’t like many democrats much more, they serve much of the same interest in big business and banking as the GOP does. I do however, think their social values are far better. This is why Hillary is on the bottom of my list of liberal type candidates I want to run for president.

By voting for Nader you are , in some small way, responsible for W and Cheney’s reign of terror.

No, it doesn’t.
Jerry September 2nd, 2014 at 11:49
Sure it does. You just dont see it. If people voting for c are responsible for a getting elected, the inverse certainly holds true. Those voting for b are just as responsible.
Now I dont believe either of those are true, in fact, I would think those to blame are the ones who didnt vote or the ones who actually voted a.

Pretty obvious you cant or wont make a valid response just a bunch of “na na na na boo boo” nonsense that does nothing to elaborate on your position.

While I think that the “Democrats are doomed in 2014” is overblown, I do think that Nader has a point about raising the minimum wage. It’s a popular issue, and one that will help the Democrats win this year.

People are finally realizing the executives are making money hand over fist and none of that “trickle down” theory has come true.

Hail Eris!
Hi. You seem to be living Somewhere Else. Here’s a story about the place in which you apparently think you’re living, by one Tom Boggioni:
Every year in Happy Gumdrop Fairy-Tale Land, all of the sprites and elves and woodland creatures gather together, to pick the Rainbow Sunshine Queen. Everyone is there: the Lollipop Guild, the Star-Twinkle Toddlers, the Sparkly Unicorns, the Cookie Baking Apple-cheeked Grandmothers, the Fluffy Bunny Bund, the Rumbly-Tumbly Pupperoos, the Snowflake Princesses, the Baby Duckies All-In-A-Row, the Laughing Babies, and the Dykes on Bikes. They have a big picnic, with cupcakes and gumdrops and pudding pops, stopping only to cast their votes by throwing Magic Wishing Rocks into the Well of Laughter, Comity, and Good Intentions. Afterward, they spend the rest of the night dancing and singing and waving glow sticks until dawn, when they tumble sleepy-eyed into beds made of the purest and whitest goose down, where they dream of angels and clouds of spun sugar.
You don’t live there.
Grow the fuck up.
The End.
Did you like that story? That’s the story of the Green Party, in the US, until the GOP fades away into its demographic doom. You get two major parties, there, and only two. Not that other parties don’t exist, but they don’t matter. They can’t win, and they can’t even come in second where it counts. No, it isn’t fair. Yes, it ought to be changed. No, it probably won’t ever be changed, because change is scary and unpredictable. Yes, that’s sad. This is reality, and it sucks.

Exactly. Nader is a GOP tool, and it’s been mainly because of him that GWB won because of his negative rhetoric towards Gore. Not to mention his flat out endorsement of Palin which took away any credibility he had on anything.

“Both parties are the same nonsense”
I fixed the quote. Think about it,(and I cant stand blind obama bashers so not trying to do that here at all) how much different are things under Obama? Healthcare reform. Check
What else? What has he done to eliminate special and corporate interests from controlling our governments decision making? What has he done to empower the people over their corporate leaders?
The most telling sign though is how many corporations has he really ticked off? Hobby Lobby? Anybody else? Point is that if he were really doing things different than the last guy you would see a lot more substantiable whining and moaning (as opposed to the empty rhetoric that exists now).
Ralph Nader was right then and it is still correct today, the parties are very similar if not the same. Its like crips and bloods, same red and blue colors even. If you didnt know anything about them or their parties you would still know they are all gangsters.

Hail Eris!
The US has a two-party system. Perhaps it ought to have been made a three-party system, but it wasn’t. The only way to make the Green Party a credible contender is to eliminate, say, the GOP, as a viable party. Until a constitutional amendment is passed, changing Congress from the ground up, and the Electoral College as well, it cannot simply “become” a three-party system. I would not bet on this ever happening.

Justice party probably better than green party. http://www.justicepartyusa.org/ As the democrats become more and more conservative and the the GOP loses all relevancy, the principals of the justice party will look pretty good to the the real progressives. The GOP just isn’t gone yet, so it is too early to abandon the democrats and let the GOP wackos continue to have power. We must destroy the GOP first.

If there is a democrat not making raising the minimum wage a priority, they may be corrupt and are/or becoming a puppet of the Oligarchy. The people should demand this be a key issue and pledge their votes to those that will push for it. The elite in the top .1% are beating down Americans and it has to stop now. It is time to raise the minimum wage and increase taxes on the rich so we will have the funds to restore the environment to a sustainable level for humanity to exist.
