McCain’s Birthday Brings Up Bad Katrina Memories

John McCain celebrates his seventy eighth birthday today, which also marks the ninth anniversary of the Category 5  hurricane that demolished New Orleans.  Katrina hit the Gulf Coast with such a fury, yet no one in the GOP seemed to realize the severity of the situation until it was much too late.  On August 29, 2005, President Bush greeted McCain in Arizona on the 110 degree tarmac with a birthday cake which was ironically left to melt in the hot sun.   He turned 69 that year.  McCain recently attracted attention with the number 69 as he bragged to Chuck Todd about being the most frequently seen guest on Meet The Press.

McCain’s Birthday Is On 9th Anniversary of Katrina

In 2008, during his campaign, McCain boasted that he would have landed at the nearest Air Force base and personally surveyed the damages of the Big Easy.  He was sharply critical of Bush’s response to the disaster, but must have forgotten exactly where he was at the time.  The optics were certainly very unfavorable for McCain, and this happened without VP nominee Palin.

If his previous appearances on Meet The Press portend anything, it’s that they will NOT include real, hard-hitting questions.  I’d love to ask him a few of my own, if I ever had the chance.

  1.  Explain the circumstances around the three plane crashes you were involved with while in the Air Force.
  2.  How could you leave your second wife while she was on her death bed and marry the latest one?
  3.  Should we ever forgive you for unleashing Caribou Barbie Palin on us?
  4.  Can you admit you made a mistake when you encouraged President Obama to arm the members of ISIS in Syria?
  5.  Will you admit the war in Iraq was a mistake?
  6.  Can you admit President Obama handled Assad’s chemical weapons well?
  7.  Do you really think going to war with Russia is a good idea?
  8. What’s going on between you and Lindsey Graham?

Ok, maybe that last one is unfair.  But it’d be really refreshing for someone to lob hardball questions at McCain for once.  We are plagued with a conservative corporate media that holds all the cards, so I doubt we will ever know the answers to the real questions.
