Michael Baden: ‘Totally Inappropqriate’ That Michael Brown’s Body ‘Was Lying On The Ground For Many Hours’
Forensic pathologist Michael Baden, who was asked by the family of Michael Brown to go to Missouri and perform an autopsy, came by Friday night to tell me what he discovered. He waived his fee for the family who, explained Baden, felt “disrespected, just as their son was disrespected, when he was lying on the ground for many hours, in full view, with nobody doing anything to help…It’s just totally inappropriate.”
Baden reiterated what had been reported earlier, that there were at least six shots that hit Michael Brown, and others that scattered. I asked about the appropriateness of six shots.
Colmes: Can you tell from your analysis whether all those shots needed to be fired? Did it need to be six? I’ve heard nine…
Baden: …You don’t shoot at anybody that doesn’t have a gun in his hand, number one; and, number two, you can’t shoot in a public place.
Baden went on to say, “there is a kind of a selective release of information, one that he had marijuana in his blood, the other that this fellow [Officer Darren Wilson] had facial fractures. We don’t know if that’s true.” Baden speculated that information was being withheld pending a grand jury investigation, “but in the meantime, things are being leaked that are inappropriate.”
Colmes: What did you witness down there yourself that you felt was inappropriate?
Baden: Well, Largely, the two things I mentioned: One, that they didn’t treat the body the respect after it was shot; they didn’t try CPR; they didn’t cover the body; they left the body out for the public to see, which only makes the public more angry…And also disrespect for the family, that nobody came and sat down and explained what was happening to the mother and father, and that’s why they reached out for other people to come and do additional autopsies.

I’ve been wondering which will happen first, the darren wilson lifetime movie or his book.
The way ferguson is dragging this out by not convening a separate grand jury and Special Prosecutor. It seems they want the memories of potential jurors to degrade and have more time to impeach their character.

Fox needs more time to fortify that pearly white pedestal for Saint Wilson.

Why no CPR, why no ambulance? You NEVER give up on a human life until competent medical authority says otherwise.
Epiphany August 23rd, 2014 at 19:47
Why would they leave his body on the ground for FIVE HOURS??

disrespectful pricks. that’s why

The detectives and forensic guys like the scene completely untouched. They don’t even want you covering the body in case the sheet, tarp, or blanket leaves fibers. Small towns might need a bigger agency to investigate shootings, and have to wait until they arrive. Often departments don’t investigate their own shootings. In cases like this you shield the deceased. They actually make these things big enough to shield entire auto crash scenes.

What part of shot in the brain are you not clear on. He was dead.
William September 6th, 2014 at 08:19
Are you a physician? Were you there?
What part of people survive being shot in the head are you not clear on?

geez. read your own dumb article. Yes, some people can survive a GSW to the
head.. it depends on what part of the brain is perforated. The areas of the
brain were Brown was shot were fatal. Instant death. “Two-thirds of people who are shot in the head never make it to the
hospital”. Don’t be such a tool.
William September 7th, 2014 at 08:31
Here’s the thing dumbass. Police officers are not Physicians. They don’t get to pronounce people “dead”. Police officers don’t get to determine which victim is part of the “two thirds”.
Congratulations on being a neurologist able to perform an autopsy from information garnered from the media but the police academy I attended didn’t even teach pathology.
Sayit1 September 7th, 2014 at 11:07
Here’s the thing… Lose the snark. Do you really think that a COP can not tell if a person is dead or not ? JHC a layman can tell if a person is dead. The simple act of taking a cartoid pulse will tell you if someone is dead or not. When all else fails do a simple pupil light reactive test. I am not a “Neurologist” but have extensive training in tramatic injury triage. I am also taking the information from the autopsy report and the fact Biden said the shot to the brain was instant death.
William September 7th, 2014 at 12:03
I’ll lose the snark when you lose the stupidity. We get it, you don’t want cops trying to render first aid to a shooting victim. Your inane comment IE pupil reaction to light or lack of therein to determine death tells me that you are not in any way remotely a medical professional. For that I am happy, and even happier that you’re not a cop.
Sayit1 September 7th, 2014 at 18:37
Ok first off.. I never said that I did not want cops to render first aid. That is your construct and a false one at that. Second, you were correct in your earlier post that you are clueless to the basic facts of pathology. That is painfully obvious. When a person is deceased, a pupillary light reflex (PLR) test will tell you conclusively if there is pupil constriction ( brain function) or not. If there is no constriction the patient is dead. Period. A first semester Med student knows this. Third, you have no factual information about what emergency aid was rendered at the crime scene.( and probably less information as to the facts of the case) SOP is for the officer(s) to call for EMTS immediately and to use chest compressions if warranted, until medical assistance arrives. Who is this ” we” the voices in your head ? The Collective ? Stand by your own comments. Now run along you rude little boy, apparently your mother did not teach you basic manners. Pity. We are done here.

They left the body in the street to be a warning to other black men that this will happen to you next because we can.
edmeyer_able August 23rd, 2014 at 14:29
And still no incident report.
raincheck August 23rd, 2014 at 18:33
No detailed medical report on Wilson either..
Suzanne McFly August 23rd, 2014 at 19:10
There are a lot of stories making claims about bruising and broken bones on his face, to me if this was true, wouldn’t it be in his best interest to have pictures of these injuries? I am pretty sure (well actually more of hoping) this won’t end well for him.
raincheck August 23rd, 2014 at 20:16

You said the same think about Zimmerman. Media said Zimmerman was not hurt. they lied.
Sayit1 September 6th, 2014 at 15:17
How about you wait until all of the evidence is in. How about that? You do not know the facs therefore you can not make a determination. What we do know is that Brown made a decison that cost him his life.

As much as I agree with Baden and everyone else that the body just laying there for that long was inexcusable, I have to completely disagree with the other sentiment he expressed.
edmeyer_able August 23rd, 2014 at 14:49
Well w/o knowing how many rounds were expended FPD is probably lucky there was only one death that day.
Still say tazer should have been used first but hindsight is always 20/20.
R.J. Carter August 23rd, 2014 at 15:09
Taser would definitely have been preferable to causing two weeks of rioting over what has, on the surface, been a more-than-botched handling of a police shooting.
whatthe46 August 23rd, 2014 at 21:17
so, its ok to shoot someone without a gun in their hands at 35 feet away? gotcha.
