Jobs More Dangerous Than Policing
No one would argue that being a police officer is a dangerous job and we should protect our men in blue. But there are other dangerous jobs, too:
Policing doesn’t even make it into the top 10 most dangerous American professions . Logging has a fatality rate 11 times higher, at 127.8 per 100,000. Fishing: 117 per 100,000. Pilot/flight engineer: 53.4 per 100,000. It’s twice as dangerous to be a truck driver as a cop—at 22.1 per 100,000.
If we are going to agonize about protecting police officers, then we should put at least as much attention into protecting (and that means regulating) people in other dangerous professions.

the vast majority of police officers have never been shot at, have never taken their sidearm out of it’s holster other than at the range and/or for cleaning.
The few exceptions make the news.

Which tends to make the number of shootings even more abhorrant.

It’s funny the way you see the reports, you’d think every cop is walking through Robocop’s Detroit and they are ALL Murphy.

This might be true. But I don’t think that we have the true data. I think there is a pattern to hide shootings. Especially, in small towns.

Good one.

I think that being a Pilot or Miner can be dangerous. But we see how well the Miners are being protected. And, too many airplanes are falling like raindrops.
I don’t think that people are ignorant to the dangers of being a Police Officer. The problem is that they have been protecting and serving themselves. Not the public. There is just too much corruption in our PD.

“It’s twice as dangerous to be a truck driver as a cop—at 22.1 per 100,000.”
So driving trucks is about as dangerous as giving birth.

my father was involved in the sears tower construction witch was quite difficult in the windy city. I can remember him talking about a couple people who were blown off the 107th floor as it was being built

being a citizen is getting to be more dangerous than a police officer too apparently. what with all the citizens killed by cops lately, they really shouldnt be too concerned. after all .. they have all their military equipment to bring to bear on the poor alleged “criminal/citizens” these days!~

How dangerous would anyone think it is to drive a car around all day while drinking coffee and eating donuts?
