Two-Star American General Killed in Afghanistan

NBC is reporting this morning that an as-of-yet unnamed American Major General was the sole fatality (so far) in an attack by someone wearing the uniform of the Afghan Security Forces. The Pentagon is reporting that some of the other injuries are so severe that the death toll is likely to rise.

While the news networks are currently hard at work scaring Americans about Ebola, they’re not at present paying a great deal of attention to this story of why our mission in Afghanistan is doomed. There is no telling whether or not the killer was an actual member of the Afghan Security Forces, or if he was just wearing the uniform and was able to sneak into this Training Academy in Kabul. This will go on, and on, and on, and on until the last American is out of Afghanistan. The Russians learned this lesson. Are we, as a nation, more stupid that Russia?

Let this Two-Star General be the last American to die trying to prop up a failed and corrupt government in Afghanistan. If the people in that country are determined to live in the 14th Century, that is their business. Let them. And we have the technology and capability to wipe out any future threat that presents itself if the Taliban or Al Qaeda ever becomes a serious threat again to Americans on American soil.

We should take the hint, pack up and get out.
