Bill Maher Jokes That Republicans Should Be Left To Die In A Hot Car

On Friday night, Real Time host Bill Maher took a too hard, too soon shot at Republicans during his opening monologue when he joked that Congressional Republicans are acting like children, and “someone needs to leave them in a hot car.”

Maher was referring to the legislative shitshow that unfolded over the past two days, as House Republicans tried to pass a bill that would have, among other things, prevented President Obama from taking unilateral action on immigration, then when they failed to pass their own bill, complained that President Obama wasn’t taking unilateral action. The punchline, of course, was a reference to the horrifying death of Cooper Harris, who was left in a sweltering car by his father, Justin Ross Harris.

The remainder of Maher’s monologue was fairly good, with a funny-because-it’s-true shot at Sarah Palin reacting to the Ebola outbreak, and another edgy shot at the House Republicans’ lawsuit, which Maher said was destined to fail because…READ MORE

I think deporting the republican congressional children to wingnutistan would of been more apropos.

This kind of hyperbole is not helpful for either “side”.

I personally can’t live in a world where I get outraged over every thing a stand up comedian says. I watched the show last night, heard the joke, and never gave a second thought that it was some how outrageous or would have columns written about it. It was just typical hyperbole.
I also don’t get outraged when RWNJs say offensive stuff because I take it as part of their sthick.

Some people call that ‘desensitization.’ :(

I tend to worry about racists with actual power, like the piece of shit judge in Kentucky. What are your thoughts on her blatant, obvious racism?

        • R.J. Carter August 2nd, 2014 at 16:43

Well, I had to go looking for that story, since I hadn’t heard it. Judging from her comments on the video footage, I’d say we could do without her.

How many republicans do you anticipate calling for her ouster?

            • R.J. Carter August 2nd, 2014 at 17:17

Kentucky ones? I don’t know. Are you trying to say it’s entrenched in the party, and not just the region itself?

              • RioBravoHombre August 2nd, 2014 at 17:48

Partywide without a doubt. There are 2 kinds of republicans. Those who are racists and those who tolerate their racism for votes.

Including the likes of Republican Senator Ernest Hollingsworth of South Carolina, who called Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow Coalition “Blackbow” and said things like

“Everybody likes to go to Geneva. I used to do it for the Law of the Sea conferences and you’d find these potentates from down in Africa. You know, rather than eating each other, they’d just come up and get a good square meal in Geneva.”

Republicans apologized for the Southern Strategy, but, it’s architect, Roget Ailes, is continuing it at Fox News.

Is that statement intended to refute my contention that the GOP has partywide racism? Because…it does no such thing.

How do you make it funny that a party has become so anti-American that they will throw the national interest away in every regard just to make the President and Democrats look bad. Just look at the recent months where they have backed Putin, Bundy, George Zimmerman, voted down a Veterans Benefit package because it cost too much even though it was less than what the meaningless government shutdown cost, won’t repair our infra-structure, and on and on. I just can’t get upset over this joke when these people are tearing down this country.

    • edmeyer_able August 2nd, 2014 at 14:23

Part of my objection lies in his using the recent cause of deaths of innocents. There is enough material for pointing out their foibles using their actual words and ideas.

      • Herb Sarge Phelps August 2nd, 2014 at 14:44

Well since the traitors refuse to apologize for their calls of murdering the President, and other Democrats, as well as the death of people based on race, I don’t feel they are mature enough to be outraged about this joke. I do think the joke was not helpful but it is not going to matter because these parasites are not going to help do the people’s business and are harming more and more with their paid off antics. They are the biggest terrorist threat our nation has and like Osama Bin Laden, I can’t have much sympathy for them.
