Rep. Steve Stockman: GOP Believes Lois Lerner Is ‘A Word That Rhymes With Witch’

Posted by | July 30, 2014 15:54 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Top Stories

If the GOP isn’t going to move on impeaching President Obama, as John Boehner has announced, Steve Stockman must feel he has a better shot at getting Lois Lerner arrested.

In an interview with Newsmax’s Steve Malzberg yesterday, the Texas Republican said that while he still thinks President Obama has “done impeachable offenses,” he now sees that the president is “trying to use people like myself” to start impeachment proceedings that would reflect poorly on Republicans.

So, Stockman said, he’s focusing his efforts before the summer recess on pushing a House vote to arrest Lerner, a move which he may be able to take without the approval of GOP leadership.

When Malzberg asked him whether he thinks his arrest motion would garner the support of his fellow Republicans, Stockman replied, “Well, they said some things about jail and a word that rhymes with witch sometimes to me.”

Funny, I didn’t think Ms. Lerner was rich.

He wants to arrest her for disparaging Republicans in an email to prove that he’s a fan of a small, non-intrusive government that supports the 1st Amendment, whatever it is, something about making everybody follow Christianity against their will.

It would absolutely garner support, but there’s no reason to get into name calling.

It is stories like this one which make me wonder how anyone can possibly be a Republican.

First of all, this guy says he thinks the President has committed impeachable offenses. Yet, impeachment proceeding would reflect poorly on the GOP. Listen pal, if your own ideas reflect poorly on your party, is that not a clue that you have some f*cked up ideas?

Then he proceeds to call Ms. Lerner a b*tch by implication and there is not a peep of criticism from the so-called “traditional values” advocates.

This guy is a member of the United States Congress and in my opinion, a shining example of why the GOP is unfit to govern, unless of course you want to be governed by a party which admits their own ideas are bad and will justify the use of derogatory terms for women.

Probably “rich” ’cause she ain’t poor with a $2.4 million house. I do wonder from her e-mails (the ones that survived the scratch to end all scratches) who she was referring to as “spooks”, “assholes” “crazies”, and “alien terrorists”?

    • arc99 July 30th, 2014 at 17:31

oh yes. the talking point about the value of her home is being faithfully parroted throughout the right wing blogosphere.

you guys are good little foot soldiers. a 6500 square foot home in Bethesda, Maryland valued at $2.4 million is normal for that neighborhood.

given that she and her husband built the house 14 years ago, the current value is hardly indicative of the initial cost. and of course, the valuation also included the land, not just the house.

when I first came across this talking point, I did a bit of research to see if there was some accusation of impropriety on the part of Ms. Lerner or her husband in acquiring their home. turns out there is not. it is just another example of the mindless hostility of the right wing where a couple who are fortunate enough to be financially well off are demonized for their success, all because it is a useful talking point in the non stop campaign of psychotic hatred against the President.

      • Jeff Allen July 30th, 2014 at 17:38

Never intimated impropriety, you all bought up rich, and I don’t care where you live, owning a $2.4 million dollar home ain’t doin’ too bad for a public servant. How about the terms I quoted from her emails? Nothing? Just had to get out your quota of “right wingers”, “hostility”, “psychotic hatred”

        • arc99 July 30th, 2014 at 17:52

. the value of the home is not at all out of line for a public servant married to an attorney with a lucrative private practice.

the emails represented her personal opinions. I was born and raised in Washington DC. I come from a long line of people who made their careers in government civil service working under Presidents from LBJ through Mr. Obama. regardless of whether or not they voted for the person in the Oval Office, they followed the rules and did their jobs to the best of their ability.

People do not give up their rights to have personal opinions simply because they work for the government. Maybe right wingers would have a problem separating their personal biases from their professional judgement. They should not project their ethical shortcomings on to others.

Yes, psychotic hatred as we are not talking about simply the personal opinions of the critics of Ms. Lerner. We are talking about those who want to use their hatred as a foundation for official policy.

          • tiredoftea July 30th, 2014 at 19:53

Don’t forget not being able to separate religion from their personal and professional biases.

          • Jeff Allen July 31st, 2014 at 14:52

I will await the supportive responses on here when a “right winger” using their official government email address (like Lerner did) to express their personal opinions and it becomes public knowledge. No one expects government officials to check their opinions at the door when they get hired, however, it is pretty much an industry standard (both private and public) that work email addresses are reserved for just that….work. It is even of greater importance when that email address has been subpoenaed.

        • arc99 July 30th, 2014 at 18:03

and when the terms “right wingers”, “hostility”, “psychotic hatred”, cease to be entirely accurate when describing current events, I will stop using those terms.

    • ChrisVosburg July 30th, 2014 at 18:15

Jeff wonders, apropos of nothing: who she was referring to as “spooks”, “assholes” “crazies”, and “alien terrorists”?

That’d be “denizens of an unnamed Government Agency in England,” “right wing radio talk show hosts,” “right wing radio talk show listeners,” and “something we ‘don’t need to worry about’ because ‘it’s our own crazies that will take us down,'” respectively.

      You’re welcome.

Doesn’t seem to be a particularly arrestable offense, but whatever tilts yer kilt, darlin’; have at it.

Stockman wants to get as much crazy talk done as he can. It’s my understanding that he will not be a member of Congress when the new session begins in 2015 since he lost the GOPTP U.S. Senate primary to Cornyn. Maybe he’s auditioning for a job as a D.C. lobbyist or a job with a RW think tank? If Jim DeMint got a very lucrative job after talking like a nut the entire time he was in Congress, there’s hope for Stockman!

The last I checked being a “-itch” isn’t illegal. If it was we would have a lot worse of a prison problem than we do now.

“…the president is “trying to use people like myself” to start impeachment proceedings that would reflect poorly on Republicans.” Um, yeah, idiot! Your own words, your own actions. If they reflect poorly, then own it and stop it.
