Putin Gave This Incompetent Zealot Anti-Aircraft Weapons
[Former Putin advisor Gleb] Pavlovsky was especially concerned about one of the pro-Russian military leaders in eastern Ukraine, a former (and possibly current) Russian intelligence officer known to most by his nom de guerre, Igor Strelkov. (Strelkov’s real name is Igor Girkin.)
A wildly messianic nationalist who cultivates an air of lumpy intrigue, Strelkov has found his way to the battlefields of Chechnya, Serbia, and Transnistria. He is now helping to run the separatist operation in Donetsk. Like the radical nationalists and neo-imperialists in Moscow, who have easy access to the airwaves these days, Strelkov has a singular point of disagreement with Putin: the Russian President hasn’t gone nearly far enough; he has failed to invade and annex “Novorossiya,” the separatist term for eastern Ukraine. Pavlovsky said that people like Strelkov and his Moscow allies are as delusional as they are dangerous, somehow believing that they are taking part in grand historical dramas, like the Battle of Borodino, in 1812, or “the novels of Tolkien.”
“Strelkov is well known for leading historical reënactments of Russian military battles, like you have in the States with the Civil War reënactors,” Pavlovsky said. “It used to be a fantasy world for people like him, but now they have a realm for their imaginations.”
If it turns out that men like Strelkov and his fellow soldier-fantasists were responsible for the destruction of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 and all the people on board, the fever in Russia and Ukraine may intensify beyond anything that Vladimir Putin could have predicted or desired. It is long past time that Putin ended both the inflammatory information war in Russia and the military proxy war in eastern Ukraine that he has done so much to conceive, fund, organize, and fuel. There are hundreds of corpses strewn across a field today in eastern Ukraine. What is Vladimir Putin’s next move?

The only way to fight pretend-soldier bad guys is with pretend soldier good guys … and we just happen to have them right here…

Putin is taking his country back to the good old days of the the Cold War. It’s not surprising that Vlad armed an incompetent wingnut with anti-aircraft-weapons. Putin has a long history of poor decisions, and being on the wrong side of history. In August 1991 Putin had to resign from state security services after supporting a failed coup d’etat against Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev and his Glasnost policies of openness and transparency in government.

” Putin has a long history of poor decisions, and being on the wrong side of history.”
well now we see why the RWNJ`s think he is a good leader and has backed him.

Putin’s next move? He’ll publically agree with senile war-monger John McCain and blame Obama

Fascinating, and I will be sharing on my Facebook Page. The reason I am so curious about the guy with a finger on the button is that a national magazine — I take so many I forget which, but I seem to think either the Atlantic or the New Yorker — carried a Russian dissident’s biography of Vladimir Putin, a negative, probably prejudiced and certainly not accredited account. What emerged was a man who can be summed up in one word: THUG. He did favors, including hits or the authorization for hits, in his branch of the KGB, St. Petersburg (formerly Leningrad), and worked his way up the communist bureaucratic ladder until propelled into politics with the support of the Evil Empire ruling that country today: KGB agents, underworld gansters, and corporate billionaires. It is an odd mix, but they want a strong man or symbol for one in the top position so that a Reaganesque toughness can be portrayed to the world. Unfortunately, Putin is no Reagan. Not as good an actor.

In a certain way, what is going on with this guy is redolent of the Kubrick movie, “Dr. Strangelove.” Maybe we can remake it, but add something new to the title. “Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Heat-Seeking Missile Aimed at a Passenger Jet.”

On a slight tangent, perhaps this will be a lesson to McCain, Graham and the other GOP luminaries pressing for similar anti aircraft equipment to be supplied to the “Rebels” in Syria.
No matter what the safeguards you can’t control weaponry and how it is used once out of your possession.
Most of the TOW71 ATGM’s supplied to the “moderates” have made their way to the “not so moderates” over the last few weeks. But it’s OK cause Saudi Arabia has placed an order for another 15000 units to replace those that have gone missing.
