Denying Climate Change On Two Continents Is Too Scary
Canadian PM Harper, who is as committed to proliferating the production of dirty Alberta tar sands oil as (America’s fossil fuel sweethearts) Charles and David Koch, who stand in unison with the ultra-conservative Australian PM, Tony Abbott.
Australia And America Have Something In CommonThink Progress reports, “President Obama has stayed far from these two other world leaders when it comes to climate policy. He is pursuing a number of avenues to reduce the United States’ emissions with his National Climate Plan, including the recent announcement of the Environmental Protection Agency’s plans to substantially reduce emissions from power plants.”
I was both relieved and troubled to know Australia out-devolved the United States and completely abolished the carbon tax yesterday. Australia was once a leader on climate action. This cabal of the anti-conservationist movement, inspired by the Heritage Foundation and the Koch Brothers, has allied Americans like Grover Norquist with the Australian Conservative, Tony Abbott.
Salon reports, “Behind the scenes, several key members of Abbott’s party including the now-Finance Minister Mathias Cormann, visited the United States to meet with conservative think tanks such as the Heritage Foundation, and conservative players in last year’s government shutdown debacle of 2013, including Grover Norquist.”
Now that Australia is on board with the anti-climate change wing of the U.S. government, how much more quickly will sea levels rise? No one dares predict this dire future.

You’d think Australia would be a little more mindful of climate change and riding seas. You know, since they’re surrounded by water and all.

The right has an amazing ability to deny any inconvenient truth, even geographic ones.

I believe they just experienced their warmest summer in recorded history. Temps during the Australian Open were well over 100F. But, hey, it’s just sunspots or Mars or something.

Canada’s Harper is from Calgary and his elections have been very well funded by the oil industry. He’s a bought and paid for tar sands shill of the highest order.

All Gore’s movie, “An Inconvenient Truth”, ranks right up there with The Towering Inferno and Earthquake in terms of culturally historic importance. The left wing hysteria over “climate change” is on par with the “Airplane” movies in terms of culturally comedic importance.

It is absurd to call Canada ‘anti-environmentalist” – our current low regard on the issue by the rest of the world is down to one man and one man only, Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Here’s a guy who is clearly a puppet of big oil, and won his gov’t with only 38% of the popular vote.
No-one, really, likes the guy, but millions vote for him for other reasons: one of them being that for the past three elections, the other main party, the Liberals, have had a policy of further restrictions on gun ownership, more forced buy-backs etc etc.
I know that hundreds of thousands of Canadian gun owners hold their nose and vote for the Harper Gov’t, because of the binary choice we are faced with.
We are hoping that the current Liberal party, will keep it’s promises to firearms owners and leave things the way they are. If they pledge the status quo, they should breeze to victory. if they repeat the mistakes of the past three leaders and “promise to take guns away”, they will lose for the fourth straight time for the same reason.

Liberals for the second amendment? Might as well pine for conservatives supporting liberalism.

I just wanted to say that our idiot PM (Tony Abbott) does not speak for most Australians on this issue. The majority of Australians support a price on Carbon, so long as the money raised goes to support the right things – low and middle income households, businesses, and renewable energy research. Just 19% explicitly disagree with it. 65% of businesses want an Emissions Trading Scheme.
So please, don’t just Australia based on our idiot PM.
