I’m a little shaky on maritime law, but doesn’t it allow you to pretty much destroy anyone who tries to board your vessel without authorization?
And if so, how much would it cost to hire a team for your tanker whose sole responsibility was doing just that? My guess is, a lot less than the cost of your cargo getting stolen.

A ships orders are to yield insured cargo because the crews lifetimes are unrecoverable. Ships are sovereign to the laws of their flag registry, while Security is usually by local military patrol or via the insurance firms trying to stave off assaults and prosecute the perp cartels.
