Bob Costas Wants MSNBC To Stop Blaming Whitey For ‘Issues Afflicting Black America’

Legendary sportscaster and political lightning rod Bob Costas has apparenly tired of only getting hate mail from right-wingers, because on Saturday morning’s Up with Steve Kornacki, he blew a big wet kiss to all of the conservatives who think that MSNBC hosts are the real racists for always blaming racist things on racism. Costas, who has become a boogeyman to the right for daring to comment on things like gun culture and the Washington Redskins’ name, seemed anxious to balance the scales this morning by equating liberal narratives on race with conservative gun lunacy, and calling on MSNBC personalities to stop blaming everything that happens to black people on white racism.

In discussing the Donald Sterling controversy, Costas sowed the seeds of his declaration by (correctly) declaring the issue “low-hanging fruit,” but also adding that “when people say, ‘Well, this is an opportunity to open up a dialogue on race,’ here is where I think some people who work in this building ought to step up and say that’s a bunch of politically correct BS.”

Costas said that “What people really want is a chance to repeat the same narrative,” rather than talk about “less comfortable truths” about race relations. What those “less comfortable truths” are is anyone’s guess, but he hinted at them a minute later. After drawing comparisons between Nixon going to China and some hypothetical conservative being sane about guns, Costas told Kornacki that even though the “narrative” of racist oppression of black people is, historically, “the overriding truth” and “the single greatest stain on our national history,”someone at MSNBC would have to be the left’s Nixon, and point out that “that narrative is much more complex now, and some of the issues that are afflicting black America are not the result of white racism…That’s a politically incorrect thing to say…”

In MSNBC’s defense, though…READ MORE

I loved how Chris Rock commented on Sterling, this is not an exact quote but Rock said something to the effect of “Sterling doesn’t want his wife hanging out with black basketball players, well neither do I” lol.

Bob needs to understand that probably most commentators on MSNBC agree with him. They tend to focus on issues where REAL racism is involved. The Sterling mess is less an example of man being caught making racist statements than it is a really bad guy getting thrown out of the NBA for the first real excuse they had to do so.

So an organization has the right to force you to sell your property? With illegally obtained evidence I might add. Sterling is a horrible person, but that does not give anyone the right to force you to sell something that you lawfully own.

Costa made those statements two days after the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. You would think he would have had something positive to says about that Anniversary but NO, he has to go on and on how the issues affecting blacks are more complex now and not our fault. Ish, guys like

Would Costas have stated those sames words on Fox or even 60 Minutes. I’ll admit though (as cynical as I am at times), that networks are businesses in that they make money garnering ratings, so there is that as well.

Oh pulleeze! Anyone who doesn’t think that “whitey” has something to do with racism or who believes that racism is over in this country really isn’t fit to speak in public.

I’ve always wondered why it’s always some white male politician or media figure on TV giving his unwanted and often-time, irrelevant views on racism and Black Americans, since they have little/limited experience in dealing with racism and don’t interact with blacks enough to know what their everyday lives are like. It confounds me how so many who aren’t black feel they can speak for us, and determine whether or not the things that are happening to us are/are not instances of racism. They talk about racism more than most of the black people I know and come into contact with. It’s almost as if they’re obsessed with the subject. It would probably surprise them to know that most blacks don’t dwell on racism the way they do, and that we don’t blame acts of racism on all whites but on the specific group of whites who endorse it, most of whom are GOPTPers.

    Edited for clarity and spelling.

Bob Costas, Professor Emeritus of Inter-Racial Studies, at So You Want A Degree College and Waffle House, says that “whitey” is blameless. I have no doubt that somebody will feel vindicated by that.

Hollywood puts out movie after movie such as “Amistad”, “Django Unchained” and “12 Years a Slave”, which are the modern equivalent of Nazi movies such as “Jud Suss” and “Ewige Jude”. By design or default, they incite hatred and violence indiscriminately toward anyone with a certain skin color. No one else has that target on their back, blamed for the problems of everyone in the world. No matter how I may devote my career to helping people of every background achieve their career goals, I know that my skin could get me assaulted or even killed in many places in this nation, just minding my own business. Everyone who incites hate bears the responsibility for the violence.
