Hold onto your hats. Seriously. Make sure you’re sitting down when you read this.
A new Quinnipiac Poll released today revealed 33 percent of Americans believe Barack Obama is the worst president since World War II, followed by 28 percent for George W. Bush and 13 percent for Richard Nixon.
As H.L. Mencken said, “Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.”

Yes, it was in such good shape when G.B. left office. America mired in Iraq, a war we had no business being in and an economy on the verge of total collapse. The Clinton administration tried to warn Bush and Company about al Qaeda during the transition but the Bushies didn’t want to hear it. I’ll never forget G.W.B.’s “deer in the headlights” look when he was told about the 9-11 attacks.
Another bit of history . . .
George H.W. Bush was paying tribute to Jeb Bush one day – before the 2008 presidential election. He broke down in tears. He completely lost it. Jeb had to come to the podium and comfort him. You know why he was sobbing uncontrollably? Because he knew the WRONG son had been elected President. Somehow, his idiot son had gotten elected instead of the son he thought would follow him to the White House.

Just dont know why you people are surprised by this???

why would I be surprised with a clueless media ?
Pistol-Packing July 2nd, 2014 at 13:11
its actually pretty simple. Every president who has sat in office has always been called the worst president in history by the opposite party. So, it is not that difficult to see how this came as a result !!
fancypants July 2nd, 2014 at 13:29
Don’t recall bill Clinton making the list ?
care to explain
Pistol-Packing July 2nd, 2014 at 14:10
I think is easy enough to explain. 1st would be social media and access to internet. When Clinton was president, the internet was still new for most people and not a lot of people had it. In addition, you did not have the access to the different media sources today. And by no means, did you have Social media in the form of Facebook or Twitter. Many people of the Golden age, dont like Trueman. I cant say, I was not around back then. People hate bush because of the Wars, and people hate Obama because they believe he was a political project and by experience, really did not deserve to be in there.
That would be my explanation… Ohhh Many people look favorable upon Clinton because of the wealth they felt do to the internet boom. But in reality, we should credit that to Al Gore, after all he did invent the internet… =)
fancypants July 2nd, 2014 at 14:17
WOW Bill Clinton would have tanked out because facebook / twitter wasn’t around.
that’s all you got ?
Pistol-Packing July 2nd, 2014 at 14:28
personally, I did not find clinton that offensive. But that is my own opinion. Yeah, people like to drag up stupid stuff. That, and you asked me my opinion. If Social media was around back when ALL of these men were president. I think you would find different ratings for all of them. it really is not that difficult to understand. After all, just look at this website, and the comments on the Disquis board. It should speak volumes all in its own right.

Well Mr. Bridgebuilder, Considering this poll was not done by historians, but by calling people. I would say your point is “Moo” !!! Just like a cows opinion, irrelevant.
And for the record, I prefer to sniff model glue, gives a much better feeling of utopia..

People look more favorably on Bush’s current role as a FORMER POTUS — that is, we tolerate him as a painter of dogs and an outdoorsman. Just keep him out of the White House where the big decisions are made.
Bottom line — people have short memories, and comparing current poll numbers of an incumbent vs. a former POTUS is meaningless at best.

Dave – I’m sorry, but H.L.Mencken did not write that. H.L. Mencken wrote that you’ll never go broke underestimating the taste of the American people. It was PT Barnum who said that you’ll never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people.

“No one in this world, so far as I know—and I have searched the records for years, and employed agents to help me—has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people.” Mencken quoted in the Chicago Tribune – according to Brittanica.

Thank you for posting that. My sources say differently:
Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.
H. L. Mencken
Maybe he said both quotes. Mencken is a hero of mine and I’ve done a lot of reading of his and about him. I didn’t recognize him saying that about the intelligence, but I did remember PT Barnum saying that.

The issue is: if you’re going to use an exact quote, the quote has to be correct. I’m a writer/journalist and I’ve been correctly called on this previously. Here is what Mencken said to the Chicago Tribune.

Jesus Christ. What part of me writing that I no longer or will no longer vote for a republican do you not understand?
I was born in the South and had Jaysus crammed down my throat by my dad until I grew old enough to get tired of his bullshit. I registered as a republican in 1988 when I was a freshman in college. Long time ago, skippy.
I stay a republican here in Tennessee so I don’t get trolled by election calls, and I can vote in the primaries to make sure teabaggers don’t get elected.
Also, there are some moderates that have my respect, as they are very intelligent. I don’t necessarily agree with their politics, but when people can intelligently argue their point of view, I have no problem with it.
On the other hand, when they have nothing to offer but bashing the President and all people that don’t roll around on the floor worshiping white Jesus, while wanting an AR-15 sent from the Lord so I can shoot brown people, then I dismiss them as ignorant, intolerant assholes.
So, if you’re (not your) content on insulting me, then I don’t know what to tell you.

That poll was taken in Republican neighborhoods with White racist males participating. We know FoxNews is the worst network as to lying, hypocrisy, bigotry and stupidity. In particular are the following: Bill O, Sean Hannity; Glen Beck; Monica Crowley, Charles Krauthammer, Eric Bolling and Karl Rove. These have not come to terms the Commander-in Chief is a Black man. These are angry people. For over 5 years they have been internally been burning with jealous. They want Black in the 50s and 60s when they were nothing. Who is causing our military back to Iraq –Not President Obama? It was Cheney and Bush II who killed Sadam for no reason; who made it possible for all Americans have access to affordable medical care –President Obama; who is lowering the unemployment –President Obama; who resuscitated the economy from 2008 melt-down –President Obama; Who brought Bin Laden, Yemen guy and now the Benghazi guy to justice –President Obama. That polling is to lie to racists, TPs and KKKs. Actually it’s a stupid polls.

pmbalele July 3rd, 2014 at 13:07
I am glad you are mad with my posting. I was mad too because the polls were a lie to the public. FoxNews has been brain-washing racists with garbage for the last 5 years. FoxNews such as Bill O and Hannity cannot stand to see a racial minority as their President. And I am sure the stupid pollers did not poll Black people. They think we are still in the 50s and 60s when we’re nothing and that we can believe their stupid poll. I am glad you are mad as hell. So I was equally mad to read the lies.
Sick and Tired July 12th, 2014 at 14:28
I’m not mad. I’m amazed at how stupid people are today. What is really scary is I think you are just par for the course.

Thanks. What a coincidence. After release of the job and unemployment reports yesterday, the following people almost had heart attacks with anger: Bill O’rielly, Eric Bolling, Andrea, Charles Krauthammer, Karl Rove and Rush Limbaugh. They just could not stand it- President Obama economic policies are working. In fact one of the FoxNews Five asked Eric Bolling: “Have you ever talked anything good about President Obama even when things are getting better for Americans because of his policies? Eric Bolling was quiet. Then he turned to Andrea-whose ancestors are from Puerto Rico. He asked Andrea: How did you like President Obama job creation policies? Andrea said: “I am not impressed although it is working. I hope it continues.” You can tell these morons at FoxNews have been told or brain-washed to talk bad about President Obama regardless of his good performance. FoxNews has been attacking Obamacare for over 4 years now despite Obamacare is working and those enrolled are happy. FoxNews has failed. You can also tell from the recent stupid released poll which show Obama is not doing well. But we’re now told the polling was sponsored by right-wing operatives such as FoxNews and TPs. The polling was done in racists neighborhoods. These people think Americans are dumb not to tell the poll was a lie. Well, let FoxNews, Limbaugh and Karl rove have heart attacks. We are enjoying President Obama policy results – giving people hope as he promised.
